Has there ever been a time in your life when you asked someone 'what's wrong?' and they actually told you what they are upset/mad/sad about?
No
I have a coworker who always asks me "how are you?" so I have to say "Good, how are you?" back to him, and he usually replies with "bad" and then walks away before I can ask why. (This is usually done in passing in the hallway so it's not like there's time to chat.)
I don't get why he asks me to begin with.

he's hoping you'll pursue him and make him tell you why and help him. he's afraid to ask directly.

rarely, but I do this a lot. I am an uber driver and sometimes I tell my passengers how i'm really feeling. Some of them listen intently but most are just offput. Doesn't affect my driver rating though so fuck it.
