For instance, if you chronograph shotgun ammo from a 20" barrel and compare it to the advertised velocity, it'll always be 50 to 150 feet lower because the test barrels are 28" or 30". Basically they lose a lot of velocity. Imagine the velocity loss by using a 12" barrel

No, a higher spread would make it more likely to miss and people you shot would be more likely to survive. A big spread would only help if you shot in a crowd, but the crowd wouldn't stick around obviously, they would run away and spread out.
A typical 00 buckshot load only has 9 pellets, each of them delivering the energy of a .32 acp, so you want all of them to hit your target right in the chest so there's no chance of survival.
Velocity loss isn't an issue if you're using 00 buck, but it is if you're using #1 buck or #4 buck. The higher sectional density of the 00 ensures proper penetration at the cost of pellet count and wounding potential. If you use something smaller that has more pellets per shot, adequate penetration is not as likely to happen from a short barrel

What I was trying to say is, one shot is enough to kill someone with proper ammunition. At 10 feet, the spread of buckshot is usually 2 to 4 inches, good enough to have all pellets hit the chest, neck or face.

Arlene is a pump action shotgun that holds 4+1 shells. Dylan used the double barrel shotgun, and that's definitely inferior, not only because it can only fire 2 shots, but also because you can easily see when someone is reloading. Plus you can't fire WHILE reloading like you can with a pump shotgun that has a shell in the chamber and is held horizontally.
I looked at the video of the shotgun guy being tackled, and honestly I'm not surprised. He was reloading it in the most retarded way possible and the student basically had the jump on him; it could have happened with any other gun.

What's better about a shotgun is firepower, volume of fire and chance to hit your target. If you used the mossberg 590 loaded with the eight 3" #4b shells, you'd have the equivalent of a .25 ACP submachine gun with a 328 round magazine and a rate of fire of 2460 rounds per minute. That is absolutely devastating. The kick would be pretty punishing on the shoulder, but adrenalin would make that a non-issue and not too painful with proper stance
It's also worth mentioning that you don't have to empty the magazine then reload. You can top off your magazine with any number of shells whenever you want. You can shoot someone once, put one more shell. Shoot twice, put two more shells in, etc.
So basically, in the right hands a shotgun is incredibly deadly

You got it right for the most part. But the "deadlier" aspect is some next level shit. I'll put things into perspective. Pic related is one of the most common murder weapons in America, a cheap little pistol that holds 6 rounds. Assuming the loads I mentioned, getting shot ONCE with the shotgun would be like 7 guys emptying this gun into you, all at the same time. You could shoot 8 times in about 10 seconds with a shotgun
The pistol has its big advantages as well: concealable easy to maneuver, simple to use. that's why it's by far the most popular weapon used for any violent crime, but they are more difficult to shoot quickly and accurately than a rifle. For a school shooting, I wouldn't worry about conceal-ability if I can walk into the school with a duffel bag.
The precision aspect of the pistol is great and all, but how often do school shooters shoot at a distance of more than 30 feet? A shotgun has a spread of 10" at that distance, not great but that's why you gotta use it in a very small space like a classroom. Or you could use foster slugs (typically used for deer hunting and defense against bears) in the shotgun, which are also extremely deadly and precise enough to hit whatever you're aiming at within 75 yards

A shotgun would be less potent against body armor or barriers than a handgun, because each pellet produces less energy than a 9mm bullet and are not as likely to penetrate well. Buckshot is about strength in numbers, multiple pellets making it more likely to hit the heart, an artery or another vital organ, if not the multiple wound tracks increase bleeding exponentially. Gunshot wounds are more survivable than people think, but shotguns reduce the probability of surviving with the tremendous amount of energy and wounding it delivers.
It may seem overkill, but people have survived way worse than that.
Yeah, I may be going too in-depth, but basically I'm just trying to say that the shotgun is not "undeniably the worst weapon". A 12 gauge shotgun is no joke.
