I grew up well, exercised religously, had friends, styled my hair, wore decent clothes didn't have acne, are well and was fairly smart.

Well, you don't realize it when you're just growing up with your family telling you that you're handsome but looking back on life you can see it.
It's quite isolating. Girls don't want to be around you and guys don't want to hang around someone who girls don't want to be around.
You get bullied as a kid for being chubby so you start lifting. Even though you're one of the most fit guys at school people say you're overcompensating for your height and how you look so you become a joke but people won't directly bully you. Even though you're a joke guys still get jealous because they want to be fit too so they spread rumours behind your back. It's difficult to make friends because you don't fit in with anyone except the nerds but they assume you're just some asshole because you like to exercise. No girls are attracted to an ugly, buff, man let, again, you're just a joke and rumours go around that you're overcompensating for a small dick.
You go through your developmental stages without ever learning how to function socially. You just assume you're not fit enough and keep working harder. You assume that some girls are attracted to you and ask them out only to be rejected and mocked. One day you go out to eat with a tall and fairly attractive male friend and notice that girls look at him different than you. When he walks past they'll look up and smile at him or touch their hair, the way the cashier and waitress talks to him is different than you've ever been treated. You notice he's actually having females initiate conversations with him online. Yes been lifting for 2 months and he's getting compliments about his body that you've never got.
For some reason you start feeling down. Everything becomes darker and you just want to shut off from society. You leave school before being forced back in to finish by your parents. You stop caring about wearing decent clothes or doing your hair, exercise becomes unbearable and you start eating junk food.
