I've never learned how to swim.

I feel like a child
>>
>>29424594
How is this possible? I went on a date with a beaner chick the other day and she said the same thing
>>
>>29424594
Neither do niggers.
>>
>>29424611
A lot of beaners don't know and they refuse to learn

Source: am beaner that knows beans
>>
It's not very hard anon. It's like riding a bike, once you learn, you never forget.

Start with the donuts or other support things then try without them once you get a better hang of it.
>>
>>29424632
Know any particular reason why?
>>
>>29424594
Mate literally just expand your lungs it's not crazy hard

Just be willing to learn and take a buddy with you to teach you if you get scared.

My swim lesson was getting thrown off the diving board when I was 9. I used to cling onto the walls and travel throughout the rim but one day my aunt forced me to jump into the deep end.
>>
>>29424670
Not affording pools probably
>>
>>29424670
No fucking clue my man. I've run into really stubborn people saying it's not a necessary skill to survive like I'm supposed to buy that argument.

It's either they don't know or someone just tosses you into the deep end and saves you when you're struggling to stay up.

My best guess is that they're scared to try it again
>>
>>29424594
>tfw I was taught to swim by being thrown in at the deep end and not helped

>tfw when I was locked in a room with a pair of shoes at age 3 and not allowed to leave until I figured out how to tie them, received a beating every hour until I sorted it at hour 4

Man up OP, just dive in.
>>
>>29424670
idk, i've really had a reason to go near a pool of water.

My parents never taught me or signed me up for lessons
>>
>>29424746
I know how to do the freestyle stroke and float on my back, but I've never learned how to tread water

holy shit are you me
except it took me what felt like 5 hours and the knot I tied ended up being more efficient and quicker to tie
>>

Inhale air
A shitloadof it
>>
>>29425098
what about kicking? do you have to kick to stay up? how do you kick?
>>
>>29425118
you tread water, which is basically like... gentle bobbing. kick and inhale, sink and exhale, repeat. it's pretty easy when you get used to it.
>>
>>29425173
>sink and exhale
that sounds terrifying
>>
>>29425212
try it out the other way around once, now that's terrifying

I can't say for certain but I think it might be like riding a bike, once you get the hang of it you never really forget. This image might help, if not that you could always watch a swimmer in motion and try to get a feel for what they're doing. If not that I guess you could go into the shallow end alone and flail about until you get a feel for how you move when you push against the water, maybe you could feel it out from there.
>>
>>29425212
exhaling keeps water out of your mouth and nose. it's slow and controlled so you don't run out of breath.
>>
I never learned how to swim properly. Hell, my dad never taught me how to ride a bike. I bought a used bike and one of my friends insisted on teaching me how to ride it when I was 18. It wasn't too hard.

I grew up in a somewhat dysfunctional family and my parents never taught me basic life stuff that normal kids learn.

I got some swimming lessons in highschool as part of the gym class curriculum. I learned the basics but that was years ago.

I feel that it most definitely is a life skill. Swimming, riding a bike, cooking in a forest, driving a car....

I'm 23 and I'd be too embarrassed to try learning swimming properly in a public pool. I would think people would laugh.
>>
>>29424594
Lots of people that have sailed (fishermen, navy, explorers, merchants) never learned to swim.

this

My parents didn't teach me anything. I at least taught myself to tie shoes and ride a bike around age 6-8, but never swimming.
I fucking pee sitting down because my parents never did the cheerio thing and I can't aim. Some people just aren't are taught

I can't learn to swim because I refuse to ever remove any of my clothing in public. I won't even wear short sleeves out of the house.

I'm mexican and get shit for not being able to swim because hurr crossed da river hahaha.

I'm fat so at least I can float but I panic too easily so I'd sink if I really was drowning.

You can easily avoid having to swim or ride a bike, that's what I've done all my life. Driving a car is expected of everyone though, you can hardly function in modern society without one.

Is anyone else terrified of this? I mean you could fucking die or kill someone if you screw up just once. You have to constantly know what's going on around you, always know exactly what to do in every situation, never get confused, never doze off, etc. Even if I managed that for a while I know one day I'd just forget which pedal does what or mistake a plastic bag on the road for a cat and swerve into an orphanage.

Doesn't help that the road safety ads in this country here are fucking terrifying.
>>
who /naturalswimmer/ here?

I've learned to walk underwater too. Feels great.

>tfw know how to do an olly
>>
>>29425027
It's pretty easy. A human's density is less than water's with full lungs. Therefore you will float with full lungs.
>>
I still dont understand forward stroke. I can move fine, but how the fuck am I supposed to move my head to breath?
>>
>>29426191
so just breath in air? that's literally it?
>>
>>29426191
You also usually have to be on your back to maximize surface area. Like a leaf.
>>
>>29426211
Keep you air pretty full (never exhail) and like>>29426218 said, be on you back with your legs and arms spread out. You might have to wade with your hands too.
>>
>>29424632
What about swimming across the Rio Grande for America?
>>
>>29426241
Sorry, I meant to say never exhale FULLY. As in keep your breaths shallow.
>>
>>29426198
dude there is no such thing as proper swimming, ignore such retarded techniques.
>>
>>29426265
I feel out of breath just imagining doing that
>>
>>29426134
I doze off while drive all the time, people just move out of the way and honk at you or if they are pedestrians, they yell at you.
Once when going downhill, I hit the gas instead of the break by accident but luckily no one was near by.
>>
>>29426198
>he sunk for the "stroke" meme

Just walrus it. Unless you're a hairless twink diving into pool water anything teachers teach do fuck all in an emergency.
>>
>>29426278
But I cant swim as far because I always need to stop and breath. How do I avoid that?
>>
>>29425055
Oldschool feels here. Kids these days don't know 'bout the original 'alternative parenting techniques' man.
>>
>>29426143
>walk underwater

my senpai, sinking to the bottom is one of those moments you don't want to end.
>>
That's why I'm glad I grew up in Australia. I did swimming all through primary school and even had a pool for a while. Haven't been swimming in 10 years but theoretically I should be fine
>>
>>29425027
As others have said, fill your lungs. But you also have to try to stay as low as possible. Don't expect to have your entire head above water while just floating, depending on your body type you may just have half of your head above it. So the key is that if you want to just float, lay on your back, and only have your face (not head) above water so you can breathe.
>>
Me neither. I don't live anywhere near water and I don't ever plan to. Fuck water.
>>
>>29426355
like I said, overworking the body with difficult breathing is retarded. Its a meme pushed by pool babbies.

Watch YT clips of scandi ocean swimmers or seal swimmers ( not military ). They're going self paced.
>>
>>29424594
I don't understand why people who can't swim don't just learn in shallow water. You can't drown.
