I have a Slavic name as well. It's pronounced exactly the way it's spelled. There is no possible way you can fuck it up. But people just get intimidated by it and start putting in random syllables that don't even exist. My Spanish teacher called me "Rastapovich" all four years of high school, even though none of those syllables are in my name.
Also, everyone thought my last name was German for some reason, so they kept calling me Hitler. Every time we talked about Germany in history class, everyone would look at me, as if I had something to say. Meanwhile, pretty much all Americans have some German ancestry, so half my school probably had a little Kraut blood in them, while I had absolutely none. But for some reason, I was Hitler.
