What skills are you trying to acquire, /r9k/?

Trying to learn pick related, can I still be good at it even when I didn't start learning as a child?
>>
I've been playing alto since childhood during 10 years, it's actually an instrument that is very difficult to learn as a kid, you have to be precise, to be able to know when your note is wrong or right (not like piano where you "just" have to know whick key to press), so as an adult you may have a quicker understanding of the way the instrument works. Then it's all about training, everyday of the week, 20 minutes minimum and you'll be as good as someone who started very young

Are you a wagecuck? There's joy to be had making fun of wageslaves but in all honestly I rather not casually converse with wagecucks.

As a NEET, I have a lot of sparetime. I spend my day reading a lot, sometimes drawing and sometimes writing poetry. I read about psychology, philosophy, complexity science and much more. It helps me better to understand myself and the world around me.

Do you know the NEET posting about the subway sandwhiches? Ugh, I cannot stand that philistine. A true NEET imports the most LAVISH and DELICIOUS food from afar. South-African wine, dates from North-Africa and so forth. I eat most healthy so I can continue to life HEALTHY and PROSPEROUS as a true NEET.

Anyhow, I am learning to be better in cooking so I can make the most wonderful meals in all of existence.

I'm no wagecuck. Btw is this copypasta?
>>
>>29411152
I'm learning guitar, started about 6 months ago, and yeah also wishing I started at 13 or so.

>try to play viola
>fingers ache badly when in chord positions
>nothing alleviates this
The story of how I wasted ~$120. I feel so bad.
>>
>>29411152
Started trying to get into cooking. I made some lamb chops last night that came out really nicely.

>>29411563
Shit man, I started to learn when I was 12/13. I went to classes and everything, I just never kept it up. I wish I had now. Not too late to try again I guess.
>>
Im learning hairdressing. I sense a boom for hairstylists in the future.

Bitch, it's called lifting, so to speak....I've been playing guitar since 4, and your fingers will eventually stop aching. Man the fuck up.
>>
I have a guitar that I got a couple years ago
And a keyboard that I had since childhood
And a skateboard that I just got
And I still want to continue learning Japanese
And start drawing

I know how to use/play/do none of these things nor so I think I ever will.
I actually did manage to lessen the hiragana but that was a couple months ago Japanese
>>
>>29411630
I played for a year when I was 10. It isn't my first time playing viola. I never had this issue back then.
>>
>>29411589
the pain will go away eventually, I've been playing for 3 months now and I almost feel no pain
>>
I want to learn how to draw
I've been thinking about drawing a huge ass stylized ouroboros in my bedroom wall

Maybe you're arthritic.
>>
>>29411678
Yeah I might be. I think I have circulation problems too and nearly a decade of being at a computer all day most days probably didn't help.
>>
>>29411656
how many fucking years have passed since then? you have to build up that resistance again you nipple

I brought a guitar and do heaps of fishing. GF is impressed when I catch our dinner.

I got a guitar in February and actually learned a couple songs quite fast.

But then my mom helped me get a job which pays well but has stressful 12 hour shifts a few days a week. This made me lose my energy for guitar and I haven't played in over 2 months.

Instead, I've decided to learn cooking, learn how to drive and I'm also learning another language.

I still have almost no friends and no social life though but who gives a fuck?
>>
>>29411717
But I never had to build it up in the first place which makes me think that this isn't natural.

What are you talking about OP, you don;t use a pick for a violin, you use it for a guitar!

Is she still impressed when she has to clean, gut, scale, and skin it?
>>
>>29411152
>can I still be good at it even when I didn't start learning as a child?
Yes, most of the problem with learning things as an adult comes from not wanting to put in the effort. You assume since you're an intelligent adult it'll come naturally but it still takes a lot of work.

I want to make a video game, but I have a lot of health problems and doing anything tedious makes them feel a lot worse.

I know how to rap, it's useful, right?

Depends what you mean by good. You'll never be a professional, you'll plateau before you can reach that point no matter how many hours you put in
>>
>>29411736
It's pretty sweet, she loves help catching small bait fish for me.

>>29411755
Why would she need to do that when I scale and gut on the spot. You need to educate yourself, son.

i make things in 3D, it started as a hobby hopefully to something greater
>>
>>29411780
Man I haven't been fishing in so long. I didn't know how bad I wanted this until my last post.
>>
>>29411777
How does one become a professional anyway?
>>
>>29411825
Just go bro, if you have a rod go to the fish mongrel and ask for old broken mussels in the shells they can't sell it so you can get away with free bait. Everything eats mussels. Ps bring beer
>>
>>29411777
what if you have talent?
>>
>>29411589
Keep playing. Eventually you'll get calluses and you won't feel the pain, if you mean your fingers just hurt staying in that position, you'll also get used to that uncomfortable position as well. Any instrument you play just takes time to learn and master.

>>29411630
>its called lifting

no... its not..
>>
Not really self improvement but I'm planning on climbing out of Diamond 3 and into master tier in league of legends.
>>
>>29411891
then you're competing with people who have talent and also started at age 5
>>
I hope to maybe find a dance partner when I move so I can practice more.
>>
>>29411940
What if I just want to play the tunes that I like?
>>
>>29411152
Yes. My teacher started playing in his late 20s and, well, became a teacher. He admits he probably wouldn't be able to reach Orchestra levels of good though, but he is Wedding levels of good. Heck, even I played at a wedding after two years of study

I'm learning Arabic. I met this really cute Christian Egyptian guy who's also gay and I think he's really into me. He's a sweetheart and I really want to impress him.

Even if things don't work out with him, knowing Arabic would be a pretty solid life skill considering we're on the edge of WWIII with the dune coons.
>>
>>29411940
what if you have superb talent?
>>
>>29411978
Then you just don't become a professional.
>>
>>29411152

i started to learn Jazz guitar but then I fucked up my life pretty bad. whoops.
>>
>>29411152
I was learning keyboard, german, some programming and doing all the maths lessons on khan academy.

Then I got a job. Now I'm too exhausted to do any of that stuff after work, and don't want to lose my days off on it.
I need less hours.

Oh cool.
See, I'm a DaDa-influenced pop surrealist painter.

I just don't paint. Never said I was good.
>>
>>29412068
Calculus is useless, study real/complex/function analysis instead
>>
>>29412092
Get yourself a thick, hard-covered sketchbook. Draw whatever you can from observation. It's going to be shit at first and it's going to be shit for a while. Then one day you're going to compare a recent drawing you did with when you first started and your mind will be blown by how much you improved.
>>
>>29412107
False equivalence, buckaroo.
>>
>>29412039
Maybe if you're some kind of genius, but it's rare enough that there aren't many examples at all of somebody starting to play after the age of 16 and becoming a professional
>>
I wanna learn Japanese so that watching anime feels productive learning time

"Self-control works like a muscle: repeated exercise develops it. So, for example, we've found that a simple exercise like using your left hand more than your right (if you're right-handed) for three weeks increases people's self-control. They're practicing exerting their conscious will against their automatic habits. And this self-control can then be used in other tasks. The self-control they built up from that regime carried over into other areas of their life ---- they became more self-disciplined in general."

interesting quote I found today
>>
>>29412163
So if I start fapping with my right-hand instead of my left, I will develop greater discipline?
>>
>>29412129
hard work can still prevail
look at Ronaldo and Ibrahimovic, then compare them to Messi and Neymar
Messi and Neymar are naturally talented, as you can see by the way they play, they are funky and waddle easily through the game
Ronaldo and Ibrahimovic are more about hard work and training, you can see by the way they are "hard" when playing (straight up back), but they've trained everything that you can actually improve (precision, ball control, etc)
>>
>>29412193
tfw right-handed but fap with my left hand
>>
>>29412211
It's so you can keep your right hand on the mouse and keep finding porn while fapping with your left.
It's just more efficient.
>>
>>29412273
Exactly. You know the routine.
>>
>>29412163

Self-discipline is energy draining, its useful if you need to do dishes or some other, not so pleasant, must do tasks, but if you want to focus on something that interests you for long periods of time, Its better to eliminate things that distract you.
>>
I'm going to start making an effort to write music and learn stuff about music theory and production. I've had FLStudio for a while but never really finished anything with it. I also might learn guitar since I bought one last year but never really touched it.
