my mom made me buy a yearbook for my freshman year of hs, but I refused to get any others and made it a point to go ghost in the senior yearbook (although I'll probably never know if I succeeded)
I tried to toss my freshman yearbook many times because only a couple of tiny mugshots are relevant to me, but I've never been able to. It's the only real photographic proof of my early high school days that I have left

When I was in my 20s, I was in the middle of a move and packing up all my yearbooks, family photo albums, comic books, magazines, collectibles, and so on, and realized I hadn't looked at any of this stuff in years. I was carting it all around from place to place for no reason other than that I was afraid of not having it.
I tossed it all. I even removed all my old photos from my wallet. And you know what? I've never missed any of it in the 25+ years since. All my possessions except my computer now fit in a single backpack, and my computer fits in a small suitcase with all the peripherals. That means I can be packed up in half an hour and move anywhere I like on the bus. I can travel anywhere, at any time, and leave nothing behind. It's wonderfully freeing. I highly recommend it.

SO, it is Father's Day and my dad just went to bed (I am visiting while college is out). He turns 49 in a month.
My dad is this warm, charming, outgoing guy with a big laugh.He is tall, a little heavy (10-15 bs) but super strong, like weightlifter strong, and keeps his hair trimmed with clippers from his 8 years in the army.
My mpmm is a little heavy, too, and dresses super conservative, has long hair she puts into a bun before she leaves the bathroom, and she went grey haired in her late 20's and never dyes her hair. Look up '45 year old mom' and there is a picture of her in an ankle-length skirt.
So mom pulls out a picture that grandpa (dad's dad) sent her. He looks and laughs and laughs.
It is s shorter guy, like 5'8", really skinny, with hair almost to his waist. I ask who it is, mom says,

Dad grew another 5" after he enlisted at 17 and got super buff.
Me and my brothers are telling dad we can't believe it is him so he laughs harder and says,

So, anyway, mom went to bed at 10, like always, and my brothers went soon after. Dad and I stayed up drinking scotch and smoking cigars.
