I'm 24 now any other anon's feel ''too old'' for all this Anime/Otaku culture, now?

Most other fans at past conventions I have been to & met, have all been under 20 years of age.

I've even lost interest in watching it now. Same for most other fans that I've known for years who are getting my age & 25+

>Anyone else feeling too old for this whole

Also as a side note: I recently met a femanon who showed interest in me
>She's 19 & obsessed with anime.

Even though she's a qt, I feel like I'm way too old to hook up with her because her interests in otaku culture now seem kinda immature to me.

Is this what growing up feels like?
>>
Title should read ''Growing out of anime/otaku culture''

Fuck.

Inb4: ''Adults can spell.''
>>
I didn't get too old for animu
Animu changed in the mid 2000's from demon rape to endless piles of moe shit

where do you live? I live in the midwest and I have no problems whatsoever meeting people in their mid 20s. I'm also 24 and I'm the youngest person in my small circle of friends who regular cons and meet ups.

the moe shit ruined it for me
I stopped following the new animu shows when I was 26 I think
I still read plenty of mango doe.

Unfortunately, I'm British.

The only thing we have that's popular is MCMLondon & Manchester
>>
>>29396220
Nope.
25 and I love sol anime.
Gochuisa is grate. I'd rank it alongside kinmoza but beneath non non biyouri.

I'm not going to discuss this anywhere but online though. As an adult man I can't really let it be known that I like cartoons of cute girls doing cute things. It'd be too easy to be misunderstood.
I wouldn't be afraid to tell someone I watched opm and JoJos tho. Or kaiji. Seinens you know.

I started getting into it at 29 and am nearly 31.

I did, however, grow out of a whole bunch of other things. Atheism, politics, metal, punk rock, drugs & alcohol, etc. So I sort of get where you're coming from.

>I'm 24
>She's 19

Bro when I was 25 a 16 year old was hooking up with me (which is legal here, thanks) and even though we had some things in common at the end of the day we just wanted to have sex.

On the other hand when I was 20-21 and knew some 17-19 year olds I missed out on potentially great relationships because I was just like OH HOW QUAINT YOU LIKE TO DRINK AND HAVE FUN HAHA I REMEMBER WHEN I WAS YOUR AGE LITTLE ONE THAT WAS SO LONG AGO I AM SO MUCH MATURE THAN YOU

>>29396220
24 going on 25. I feel pretty much the same exact way. There are the occasional gems, but for the most part anime is fucking degenerate samey trash.

That's just the way it is though. They have to sell products by marketing to the lowest common denominator.
>>
>>29396220
no I'm 24 and I still watch cartoons but only about 5 a year and when they're not airing. I don't discuss it with anyone either

I've never went to a convention because other anime cartoon watching niggers seem autistic so I guess I dislike the culture/fanbase and like the product?

Same. I've always been like this though, probably partly to my detriment. I could have had friends in high school if I'd eased up a bit, but I kept to myself.

I loved anime and vidya to obsessive levels, but when people at school mentioned or talked about them, I felt nothing but contempt.

I only watch about one new anime per season at this point, and that is usually an adaptation of a manga I have already read/am currently reading. Occasionally a series will get an anime greenlit and that will convince me to read the manga (which let's be honest is the main purpose of most anime).

Basically the older I get the more manga I read and less anime I watch. I find myself watching more OVAs and movies than TV series for the better animation quality at this point but I don't watch much of either.

To make matters worse my favourite genre of manga (Yankii/delinquent/bosozoku manga) is well known for having fuck all scans for most of their series.

Not him but of course not. I think when you people say "growing out" what you mean is "I don't follow the stereotype and group rules anymore" like saying kawaii uguu~~ shit all the time and having your room covered in naked anime girls posters. It's actually a phase for some people, wanting to fit in and be accepted is a strong part of it, whatever others reason they had for getting into it is not going to last if you don't have a genuine love and interest for it.

That said I think it's actually a good thing to "grow out of something" if you were that kind of fan in the first place. Otherwise you just want to seem mature and cool like >>29396876 said.

>>29396818
I've been into metal for all my life, never went through the edgy black-clad phase at all and I don't see the day I get tired of it, still atend some concerts and honestly nobody gives a fuck about how you're dressed or your beliefs. Im 29 btw. If you're in something for the looks, fandom and other retarded shit I can see how you'd eventually see how pointless and stupid it is though. You just thought you looked cool and badass in black amirite?

>>29397064
>so I guess I dislike the culture/fanbase and like the product?
All fanbases are terrible desu familia, posers, idiots and lonely abound. Btw when I browsed /a/ most of them genuinely share your sentiment.
>>
>>29396220
i dunno man
i started really getting into anime hardcore at 19 and i'll be 23 this year
it certainly hasn't improved my life on a social level but i went through my whole teenage years sexless and friendless without the influence of anime
i honestly feel like my love for anime and otaku stuff is what's keeping me alive. without it i'd be lost with nothing to look forward to.
my only regret is that i didn't get into it sooner as i still have so much stuff on my backlog 4 years in

if you honestly feel you have prospects waiting for you such as jobs and potential friends/gfs and anime is the only thing holding you back then go for it but just remember

anime was there for you when nobody else was
>>
>>29398269
>my only regret is that i didn't get into it sooner as i still have so much stuff on my backlog 4 years in

yeah, 19 seems a bit late desu. some of my best anime experiences were when i was 13 - 15 because i could relate more to the high school characters; like ichigo from bleach, or kira from gundam seed. now that shit would just make me cringe if i watched it again, but when i was 15 ichigo was someone i could relate to and imagine being/idolize.
>>
I stopped watching anime for the most part around age 13-14 when I discovered PC vidya. Started really being into it at age 8, went to every convention in my state for like 6 or so years. I never really completely stopped watching it though, I still read manga sometimes and had marathons with friends and the bf but by 15 I was just a casualfag.

I still have a weak spot for figures even being a filthy casual and I still do now at 20.

OP here:

Same age for me: watchingthings like death note at age 16 made me think I was light & everything.

Did a cosplay as him in his school uniform and had the gay ass hair & everything.

Watching any anime based in high school would just make me cringe now.
>>
>>29398353
i dropped out of school when i was 13 so i never could relate anyway
when i first started watching i thought holy shit this is what i missed out on in school? but quickly realized real school life is fucking shit compared to anime and that harems don't exist unless you were the school chad

nowadays i mostly try to self insert as the little girls. yuru yuri and ichigo mashimaro are some of my favorite anime
though i started watching initial d the other day and am loving it so far
it gave me >tfw no drivers license
>>
>>2939864
>i dropped out of school when i was 13

Are you black?
>>
>>29398772
nope, just asperger who always had trouble fitting in and grew to violently hate everyone around me to the point i'd randomly attack people

years of social isolation and anime absorbtion however has made me become a much calmer person and i'm capable of going outside in short burst such as to the shops without any problems
>>
I stopped watching anime when I was 18 years old. It was due to my favourite TV channels that emitted anime series, even OVAs and movies. One of them started to decay 'bout a year before its impeding shut down. The other was bought and its new owners pretty much defiled it with shite content, 'til it went belly up two years later if I recall correctly.
The other is still alive, but was never focused on anime, but the series they are emitting either I already saw them or just plain suck.
My internet connection was too shabby and I was generally too lazy in that regard to download anime by myself. I did watch Death Note when it was still in its heyday, more out of curiosity, to see what it was all the fuss about. Tried to watch Bleach, Naruto and One-Piece, but I couldn't watch more than two episodes. I really grew up from that stuff in particular.
I rekindled my interest in watching anime when I was 24, because I made some friends that like anime aswell.

>If you're in something for the looks, fandom and other retarded shit I can see how you'd eventually see how pointless and stupid it is though. You just thought you looked cool and badass in black amirite?

A bit of that, but also because metal is pretty one-dimensional. It's either songs about being angry, songs about Satan, or songs about frostdragons or some shit. Occasionally there might be a meme band that does like "pirate metal" or "beercore". Punk music as well since it's either "Dude Society Sucks" or "I Am Young and No One Understand me"

To be fair, pop music is also pretty one-dimensional since it's all just songs about having a good time with your boyfriend and/or girlfriend & sometimes a break-up song, and rap music is also one-dimensional, and country music is one-dimensional, etc.

Ultimately I just branched out to other genres of music. Metal and punk used to take up 99% of my music collection and now they're probably like 5 or maybe 10% each.
>>
>>29397064
I fucking hate the "culture" around artwork and media these days.

Artists should be sequestered from their audience. They are the elite. They are the creators--not the mouthbreathing hordes.

Drooling retarded fans having access to creators via social media is a nightmare. It's ruining everything.

I want artists to be far off and mysterious and unique again. Fuck social media, fuck cons.

You could try appreciating it on its own terms.

you are lucky to get to be part of an otaku community at all.
I go to conventions and meetups and anime clubs, but no one, ever, has been willing to let me into their community. I still rely on meeting new people almost every time.
And when it comes to age, I'm in my mid 20s now. For years, somehow the people I met were always 17 years old, and I felt old, and now it's just getting worse, because not only am I getting older and older, the people I meet seem to be getting younger, lot of 14-15 recently.
It's okay I guess, I get to live good middle school/high school years through them, hearing their experiences, but still it's strange

This. There are two ways to kill a hobby, overdoing it and using it for escapism. Like all those nerds complaining about not being able to play vidya anymore.

Not that it's impossible to really get sick of a hobby but it's usually just a burnout unless you found something else to occupy your time.
