I don't think so, i think things are already going downhill because we're really at our peak. Do you all think capitalism is going to evolve forever and ever? in the 70's they had to implement neoliberalism and defeat the Soviet Union to keep things under control, because market was going downhill. The PTB could end humanity by having AI create a virus and spreading it not just through humans but to everywhere on the planet. Everybody that is living in bunkers and such is being tracked already and they can be killed by robots.
My current theory is that the singularity will turn the solar system into a computer that dreams. The PTB will "kill" themselves as their human material bodies will be worthless. The privilege they have isn't living more, it's deciding what kinds of things the computer will create.

Every second, minute, hour, day, night, week, month, year, decade, century, millennium people are proclaiming an apocalyptic end to it all.
It's difficult to not be jaded from both mainstream/online media constantly fear mongering to one narrative theme or another.
I swear some people seem to just want so badly for these terrible things to be true, like they get off on it or are so miserable that they wish to die and like the idea of the entire world going with them in either an act of bringing everybody else down to their depths or aggrandizing their own existence by wanting to experience something so epic (using that word by its literal definition) so as to live out some warped fantasy because they simply cannot gratefully enjoy the relative peace and luxury most of us in the present/ developed world take for granted as normal.
The religious death cults with the apparently charismatic leaders who claim to be prophets of God are especially annoying, bunch of misers and ingrates.
