Guys please, be honest. Do you think depression can be cured?
In my opinion, no.
Meds can help a lot but eventually depression always returns. It's something defective in our brains, so if it's not solved when you are still growing, as an adult this is pretty much game over.

I think it fades away from my experience but is always close around the corner waiting there to grab ya when stuff doesn't go as you like
But I would suggest you to look at scientific papers instead of asking robots

Some robots are scientific though

It can't be cured. My psych and other people in the clinic tell me its something I have to live with, that it won't just magically go away some day.

Also depending on how severe your depression is, you can have 6 - 10 episodes in your life with each episode being no longer than 2 years. This is just an average though.

So on average, depressed people get to be depressed for 20 years of their lives.

You can cure depression, you can. But you're more prone to fall in depression again later.
That said, I'd like to add something to what >>29370016 said. It depends on the kind of depression you have, if it's chronic it's a whole other story. But if your depression is the result of things that happened in your life and all, it can be cured.

Now if you manage to beat it, you should do you best to prevent it from happening again.

I'm still not that far though... I'll know whether I'm admitted to a day hospital next week...

How old are you? And what does your psych tell you about how to overcome your depression episodes?
>>
>>29370104
But if it's chronic depression, it's game over right?

Depression isn't something which needs to be cured; it's a dark gift. The hypothesis of depressive realism holds that depression is actually the removal of a filter which makes the world seem irrationally pleasant for everyone else. Clinical studies, for example, have shown that people who are depressed show superior skill at estimated whether a given shape will fit a given hole. Depression, the hypothesis goes, is something which happens when a person feels trapped, giving us access to the most accurate possible data with which to escape our predicament.

Use your depression. Allow it to reveal the world the way it really is, and then turn your gaze inward to give yourself perfect insight. It is better to live in harsh truth than well-seeming lies.

I'm 22, but I can trace the beginning symptoms of my depression to when I started puberty around 11-12.

It was bad at 14 and full blown at 16, then I just "snapped" one day and was genuinely content for a year, then university brought my depression back waaayy worse.

She advises cognitive therapy which is like being rational with your thoughts and being mindful of what you're thinking and how it makes you feel. Then says stuff exercise, socialise, eat healthy, take my meds regularly, go to sleep at regular times, plan my days, get into a routine etc.

Sometimes there's no way out, senpai. I'm going to be downing these pills until I die.

Ah yes I remember reading this. I forgot about it. Thanks for bringing it back senpai.

It's not game over. But once your first episode has passed, you should see with your therapist how to cope next time it happens and prepare things.
If it's chronic it'll come back but you know it will come back so you won't be taken by surprise like the first time.

This is actually really interesting. Where I can read more about this hypothesis?
>>
>>29370408
https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Depressive_realism is a good place to start.

How do you plan your day senpai?

Thank you senpai
