I know someone from HS that works a pretty crappy low-skilled job, is a massive cheapskate, saves a bunch of money, then quits said job and travels for like two months

i was making 41k at a very shitty job in a big city and i was supporting my wife at 25, then just randomly got a job at 60k that was a lot easier and with a lot more perks like my own cubicle and short commute time.

at 25 you should be taking yourself more seriously if you have experience. don't take anyone's "learning experiences" anymore.

>at 25 you should be taking yourself more seriously if you have experience. don't take anyone's "learning experiences" anymore.
You do realize that you are far more qualified for actual work than most people here right?
The idiots paying you 60k either are idiots or you're worth that much, which means you could be getting more but probably get more work on top of it.
Most people here past 25 have serious mental issues and won't be making past 30k unless they did something useful once like you.

i wouldn't tell anyone to go in debt but it's pretty retarded how you can just start living like a king all of a sudden and then only owe like 200 dollars a month to the bank. it would be silly to refuse that shit if you can never afford little things that would make life a lot better. being "rich" means nothing in america, everyone is rich just by the quality of our roads and services and infrastructure.

>25 years old
>have 40k saved

Motherfucker, I'm 23, I have ZERO saved, and I owe the bank 60 bucks right now. I have a wardrobe that fits in a backpack, an old laptop with a cracked screen, a ruined trackpad, and parts I replaced, a pair of shoes that I tie to the backpack, a pair of flipflops, my (empty) wallet, a knife, my toiletries (fit in the backpack), a cardboard box full of books, and that's it. I've been smoking butts rolled into rolling papers for two years now.

If it weren't for the fact that I'm getting almost a full ride to college (yay, dining hall being covered!), I'd be a fucking transient. As it is, I basically live off 4k a year and still feel like people think I'm a parasite.

I don't even own my own schoolbooks. I get those from the library or from people in the grade ahead of me.
>>
>>29356425
Applied for loader, but merc or sales would be cool too. I'd need to get an A class license to drive, pays like 56k a year though so I'm not against it.
>>
>20 years old
>$20k/yr

Recently bought a car so it smashed my savings. I used to have $5k. It's going to take me months to get back up to that spot.
I'm getting a better job soon, so hopefully it won't be too difficult to reach that. I'm also going to start a trade next year. Which should pay off in the future.

>>29356397
its called credit anon and it doesn't work like that. Businesses can't exist without it, and you're not paying 200 you're paying whatever you owe plus the ridiculous interest rate.
Its literally a devils trade and people take it because they want shit all the time.
Debt is fine if its tied in investments. If its tied in consumables then you're missing the point.

>>
>>29356351
>mental issues
literally 100% of the human population qualifies there.

i'm being paid 60k because i can read and write without fucking up too much. most of my department is ugly, dumb women. hardly anyone dreams of working in the pharmaceutical industry so there's no competition. i didn't do anything useful ever, i slept and partied through uni studying 2-4 days a month for exams and wrote that i volunteered somewhere, then did benchwork and QC for 3 years, mostly slacking off the last one.

i'm just saying that at around 25 people stop expecting you to be a fucking useless kid and you can actually negotiate salaries and what you do. you can still be a loser and maybe that's what you're worth, but 3-5 years of experience is usually where people really advance their career to something that isn't miserable.
>>
>>29356571
>not paying 200

debt is fine if it's small, too. you seem mad about something. debt is virtually the simplest, if not the only way that most people can get access to a decent home or education.

Good to know I'm not alone in this, then. It always seems like everybody else has way more disposable income.

>I'm surprised you aren't living at mum's and in 40kdebt
I'm 16k in debt and my grandparents help me out 2 months out of the year. I just owe the bank 60 bucks right now.

The thing is, if I had been smarter and invested, or just deposited the fucking money instead of spending it, I could have had 10k in the bank when I left high school. I was making like 250 bucks a month then, and I wasn't smart about food spending. Kinda splurged because I had disposable income instead of being smart and just buying rice and beans. Frozen dinners and eating out. After gas and insurance, that pretty much depleted my money. Probably should have bought coffee instead of energy drinks, too.

Then again, I give myself a pat on the back just for fucking graduating after running away.

>Yeah I pirated that shit too,
It's like they WANT you to. Seriously, the way they run that shit is fucking criminal.

Oh, well. Maybe I'll get a free ride to medical school if I can get a 528 on the MCAT. If not, more debt. Then residency. Then I can start making a decent amount of money when I'm in my mid-30's. Yay.

I'm just going for the education, I'm a lazy bastard right now and need to set my priorities straight.
My dad has already promised me a job if I get a CS degree at his company and I have several really good ideas for video games and technological inventions.
I might even get my A+ certification and call it quits once I'm done making the game.
Plus it's a conservative university

>>
>>29360710
That's why I'll get the A+ certification and work for my pops.
I'm relying on my creative ability here, give me a break.
Miyamoto was a gardener for fuck's sake, and I've got an idea to surpass all.
Plus I might even learn some graphic design skills and set it up on my website, I already do advertising for a local radio station and water bottle company, I just have to finish drawing my comic and put it up on my website along with some of my music, from there I'll advertise that I am a graphic designer and do freelance work switching between graphic design and IT.
It's going to take a lot of hard work to get that far though and I've fallen out of focus and let my mind shrink.
My main goal right now is learning C++ and it's pretty hard without a professor to talk to. I won't take the class because I'll fail but I'll learn the building blocks of code and use the website/seek out professors/peers to help.
Plus I may even get a QT gf.
There's no black people here.

26, make $70k a year as a programmer, have about that much in the bank. Only been working a little over a year. I live with my parents. I don't spend money except for a new computer every couple years.

I'm going to wait until I have about $100k, and buy a small house in a small town. Then I will live there, save another $100k and buy another house. I'll rent out the first house. The goal is to have 3-4 rental properties by the time I'm 40 so I can retire.

Never having kids of course.

I'm 48 years old and have no money in the bank at all. I make less than $15,000 a year. I have no fridge, no stove, and no shower; I take sponge baths in the sink. I sleep on an old piece of foam in a bare, concrete, unfinished basement in a hundred year old building which used to be a plastic-forming factory.

And you know what? My life is wonderful. My time is my own to do with as I please, and I've used my life to be of service to others and to my community instead of accumulating wealth. Where you're miserable with financial security, I'm living a fulfilled and adventurous life with not a penny to my name.
