On the off chance you do find a diamond in the rough, they're connected to other shitty people that they were unable to avoid, so you're slowly infected.
So, involving yourself with other people involves:

You loose track of what's normal, you lose access to other people's experiences to help you make decisions, you feel confused and insecure and you don't know anything about how the world works. The life manual is when you listen to a variety of people talk about a variety of topics.
