Fool proof way to learn any language:

>learn the 300 most common words

>you will figure out the subtle nuances of sentence structure
you are now a master of the language

works every time

A flawless plan. Explains why that's exactly what everyone already does

I'm trying to learn German and Russian. I feel this is going to be harder than it seems.
>>
>>29326304
It's far more complicated than that. French and spanish, for example, have more than 6 pretty common conjugation tenses.

It's not that straightforward. A lot of languages use complex inflectional rules, so any given word you see is actually a specific case or tense of said word. Memorizing the word in that form alone won't do you much good. You'll have to learn the ins and outs of the language's inflection before you can form any intelligible sentences.

Then there's shit like particle words, which aren't really words so much as grammatical markers. If a non-English speaker saw the word "to" for instance, in what context would they assume it's used? It's both a preposition and an infinitive marker.

Sounds good but I'd start with memorizing the alphabet, then memorizing grammar and syntax. I might would try going up to 500 words but 300 is workable and you eventually come across the rest anyway. Adults pick up languages much faster than kids because we have a better capacity for grammar. It's like a super shortcut to proficiency. This is the main flaw with Rosetta stone memers. Why purposely make it harder on yourself? You can cram all the tenses of Spanish in a single afternoon, subjunctive mood and shits like reflexive or irregular verbs are tricky but they'll stand out as exceptions pretty obviously and can then be brute forced as well.

What's wrong with your sides? It takes a kid 10 years just to get a 4th grade understanding of the language. In 2 years you can be reading and writing at a University level of proficiency with Spanish. Give me a week and I can get further than even a 3 year old in any language you choose.

Why do you keep remaking this thread?
>>

Noone doubts it's viability. It's just a very inefficient way of going about it in terms of time and effort required. If it were that easy we'd all be speaking nip fluently by now.

>you will figure out the subtle nuances of sentence structure

Except you won't. Not all languages have similar parts of speech, or use them in the same way. Some languages have cases that don't even exist in English.

Let's see you figure out Russian inflection (or even any degree of vocabulary) just by watching TV. The entire language is going to sound like an incoherent mess of the same unintelligible babble being recycled over and over again.

I've been thinking of picking up a language this summer just for the lulz and possibly use since i might go backpacking with this normie girl i met at school

what should i learn?
i was thinking German but german sounds ugly desu

italian? russian? portuguese? idk
thx bb

those are all meme languages just the same as yours, do something sharp and edgy

You don't believe me? I'll go up against 10 3 year olds. My method is highly effective. No need to focus on atheism either. In fact I'd rather not because I'm neither atheist nor edgy.

>>29326883

Not a single person in thin thread has doubted the method op mentioned. You might want to work on the subtle nuances of English.

Portuguese would be my choice. It's basically the redheaded stepchild of Spanish. It should be very quick and easy to pick up with your romance background and Brazil is a bric country so it might actually be worth knowing some day for more than just getting your dick wet.
>>
>>29326972
German sounds full of force and conviction. It's one of the coolest languages.
French sounds like submissively fellating a gay man's butthole.
Italian is a nice balance between the two.

It's not mysterious, it's just about hard consonants. German is like Ein Zecht Der Brecht En Kommen Der ZUKTENFRECHTBEINENZERBEKT
French is like zeoooaaaoaoooaeeoaooaoeeieoaoaooaoaoooeoooeoeoeo

300 is too little. Even children's books will be difficult at that vocabulary, but still a better choice than a newspaper.

Your doing it wrong. Just skim through and try to pick up what you can. You don't have to understand all of the words you read you just have to start making inferences on what those words mean. Eventually you will pick them up and understand them.
its the same way a newfag eventually stops sounding like a faggot.

language fag here and this is basically fool proof

only thing id add is learn good grammar so you dont sound like a google translation
>>
>>29326474
>>29326539
Both of you are right. Children pick up words and syntaxes rapidly in terms of production, but you need at least a couple of years of conventional education to understand and consciously apply grammatical terminology (parts of speech, arguments, etymological cognates, ...) in your own intelligent learning.

I know all languages and learn them in seconds. Whatever I need to know I copy paste into Google translate and that's that. There is no need to be fluent in any language beyond English. Anything worth being said will be said in English. Shit like Spanish and Chinese are just amusing hobbies like Klingon or elvish. Kind of cool but ultimately nerdy as hell and a waste of time.

Ok big guy. Apart from polyglots who are exceptional talents, you will NEVER achieve fluency in more than 2 languages as an adult. Even with immersion. Children who grow up in bilingual or even multilingual environments achieve total fluency in ALL OF THEM by age 4.

>give me a week and I can get further than even a 3 year old in any language you choose.

Honestly this is just laughable, I'd like to see you try
>>
>>29328603

If that's true why are there so few 4 year old children in Brazil with pullitzer prizes?

Noone has ever achieved total fluency in even just one language by 4 years of age. It's remarkable how quickly they pick up their language but compare the language proficiency of a 4 year old with that same individuals proficiency a year later and the difference is huge.
