I called my longest term girlfriend a few things, mostly in jest but sometimes you have to just tell them "hey, you're really being a bitch right now." and she usually flared up in anger for a second then apologized after she stopped and thought about it.

My girlfriend used to hit me. She'd charge me, punch me in the face, the stomach and it'd really hurt my feelings so I'd wait until we were cool and everything settled down and then I'd be as distant as possible for a couple of days. I knew it bothered her which is why I did it and honestly if I didn't I don't think the relationship would have lasted as long.
