Not him but INTPs and INFPs are prone to substance abuse. Infact it seems all IN types are.
Probably "muh overanalyization" and "muh heart" in the case of INTPs and INFPs who both lead very analytical functions (Ti and less rarely seen as analytical despite being extremely analytical: Fi) and also both prone to emotional issues as INTPs have repressed feeling and which causes it splurg out and INFPs have dominant Fi which causes them to constantly conflict with the world and how it works.

MBTI is not a measurement of your personality, or atleast the theory behind it isn't. It's suppose to framework (as opposed to measure) the fundamental way you process information. Although this naturally fosters different personalities, it only describes the skeleton of your personality at best.
The skeleton can be broken and reworked but never drastically changed, and it mostly obscured by a mess of flesh and environmental factors. An INTP from America will be very different to an INTP from say, Saudi Arabia. The only things they'll guaranteed have in common is that they both prefer introverted thinking and extroverted intuition as their main two fundamental thought processes. The exact percentages and degrees as to which will differ.
