Get one and immediately head over to homebrew general /hbg/ in /vg/
You can mod it, then load the official Nintendo updates over the top of the mod. It allows you to download every fucking Nintendo game out of the entire Nintendo eshop using the Nintendo servers.
If they ever try to push an update to brick your 3ds, they literally can't. The homebrew installs itself into the core of the 3ds and you can flash off any bricking (like holding for the bios at startup)
There is literally no downside besides the 5+ hours it takes to homebrew it and you save all money.
When Sun and Moon comes out, you can download them midnight at launch for free.
When ANYTHING comes out, you can get it for free.
Want to play SNES games? You can. Etc etc

You could try FE Conquest, I'm playing through it now, it's okay not as good as the GBA ones. Feels like you own half of the game too. New mario kart is kind of shit compared to the old one. You can get OoT and MM too but OoT runs like shit sometimes, dunno about majoras. tom clancy shadow wars and ace combat were actually pretty decent games

I recently beat OoT 3D and didn't notice any major problems except for maybe once or twice. It's not a big deal.
