Foolproof way to learn a language:

>learn 300 most common words
>read newspapers
>watch tv
>you will figure out the subtle nuances of sentence structure
you are now a master of the language

works every time

Nice lifehack, thanks OP!
>>
>>29300637
You won't learn dialect as easily, and it takes time to learn all of the phrases that fluent speakers use.

Other than that, pretty good.

Sounds like a pain in the ass. Every nation with anything already has a shitload of English speakers.

Unless it's a language that is inflected or otherwise has a structure that's radically different from English, like Latin or Russian.

That's actually how I learned english.
That being said, I'm still learning it, so it might not be the fastest way to learn a language.

The only benefit would be too talk to foreign autists, but we have more than enough english autists already.

kyoto ni ikimashita
kyoto ni ikimasendeshita

you learnt the word iku, or ikimasu, meaning to go (common word)

how are you supposed to infer which means went, and which means didn't go simply by reading? how on earth are you supposed to figure out the subtle nuances without knowing any grammar?

By context you fucktard.
>>
>>29302850
but how would you know context when you only know 300 words? grammar is everything you fucking retard
if you didn't know either of the two words i just listed, how would you know which was which? just by a sentence?

Who said you will just read a single sentence? Again, you're a retard.

learning a language isn't really something that only takes a year or two
>>
>>29302905
You only know 300 words. This might be possible for languages like french or spanish but it's not enough for languages vastly different to english. You don't know verb conjugations, you don't know what words are names, you don't know any idioms or expressions, you don't know advanced or specialised vocabulary. I can fucking read, but it won't work

it can be if you get off 4tism and committ
it can actually be even quicker
>>
>>29300637
Yeah, the top 3 are definitely true, exposure to the unknown will also (hopefully) make anons more curious about why certain words or phrases constantly reoccur. It's a fantastic strategy for both understanding and expanding the boundaries on your knowledge of a language. Unfortunately this is only one piece of language acquisition. Grammar has no shortcuts. Vocabulary doesn't either.

You need more than 300 words, around 2000 at least. That's said to cover about 85% of all words in a text. Although the problem with that is that the meaning of a sentence is usually contained in those less frequent words. OP may I recommend the L-R method, it's the fastest method of learning a language and you get to delve right into consuming content without having to study from shitty boring grammar books
>>
>>29302999

My pronunciation is still horrible though.

it was developed by a schizophrenic polyglot so you know it's good.

OK so OP oversimplified it but he's on the right track.

This nigger learned several languages, each one in a few months of intense study. His method works and is pretty well-suited for robots (as opposed to fuckfaces saying "lol just move 2 dat cuntry and start talking 2 ppl").

http://lifehacker.com/5903288/i-learned-to-speak-four-languages-in-a-few-years-heres-how

I did his method for Russian and was making good headway when I realized the only reason I was learning it was to understand CP videos, so I lost my motivation. The way he does flash cards is brilliant though it takes a lot of prep work.

I also recommend downloading the Pimsleur series for whatever language you're learning. It makes the listening/speaking part a lot more automatic and puts your accent into near-native mode quickly.
>>
>>29303407
i could give it a shot
>>
>learn 300 most common words
Yeah actually just learn the fucking language in a proper, systematic way, takes less time with less effort.

There is a lot of information around the web about it, I've lost the link but the original deviser of this method keeps a web page where he/she goes into a lot more detail and offers free resources for download

>Just need to videochat

Dropped
>>
>>29304087

Videochatting is not essential. It's only something you'd use if you (a) wanted to be a fluent SPEAKER and (b) didn't have easy access in person.

If all you want is to be able to listen, read, and write, then there technically is no need to ever interact with a person other than through text. I knew someone from China who studied English independently and without any speaking practice was able to talk to English speakers fairly well, just because she had listened and practiced speaking in her bedroom or whatever.
>>
>>29300637
I've "accidentally" taught myself english with only a few lessons initially and just exposure due to computers and the internet.

It takes many years.
>>
It worked for me with english
