I've said it before and I'll say it again, I can't stand this smug asshole.

This douche does "dirty jobs" occasionally for a day for maybe a few months out of the year while he's filming his show. It's very easy for him to push this "salt of the earth" crap where we should be "honored" to work at fucking McDonalds and strive to be the best burger flipper there is. If he were actually doing the jobs from his show like working with literal shit for 40 hours a week, 50 weeks a year (if he's lucky enough to get that much time off), he'd be singing a different tune.

This is just like when rich celebrities who live in mansions with private security try to push socialism and "equality" on poor people, except now it's a rich celebrity telling us to just "shut up and just devote yer life to diggin' them ditches cuz that's what makes a good manly Murrikan!" How do people honestly fall for this shit?

This guy is laughing at you while he snorts a fat line of coke out of a hooker's asscrack.

Mike Rowe gets to narrate shows about crab fishermen in the bearing straight while he is in a comfy studio. He gets to dick around making his dirty jobs show, trying out these dogshit jobs a couple of hours at a time before he goes home to his mansion while leaving the poor wagecucks to continue their pained existence.

I would rather make 60k a year at a nice office job where I'm on salary the schedule is more loose than make 70k at one of those shit jobs where I have to wake up at 5:30am every day and punch a timeclock where I HAVE to work exactly 7:00-3:30 (at least) and would probably be fired for calling in sick more than once in a blue moon.

>inb4 "b-b-but that shitty work makes a you a 'manly man' and you will be in shape and all the girls will want you!"

Someone always replies with this bullshit but it's not true at all. I've worked several blue collar jobs. Most of the guys are not in shape. Most are overweight from drinking lots of cheap beer and eating shitty, fattening food.

>>29298127

The unhealthy obsession with "muh hard work" and money/consumerism is a big part of the reason that things got so shitty over here.
>>
>>29297413
It's like a robber baron's wet dream.
>>
>>29298440

Another thing about blue collar work, why does it have to be "hard labor"?

In every blue collar job I had, except for a temporary public works position (which was actually nice because it was for a municipality AND I worked with union guys), everyone was always obsessed with moving really fast and "pushing themselves." Fast to the point that you're totally exhausted at the end of the day. All so that the wealthy guy at the top could get his money a few days or a week earlier and everyone could talk about how hard they work and how early they wake up during lunch break.

The millionaire builders would often request that guys work Saturdays as well, because they couldn't bear the thought of getting the big check at the end of the month versus the middle of the month.

There is no reason to work fast. You can work at a moderate pace, and then have energy to actually live your life. I guess this goes back to the American attitude of "live to work."

>>29298874
Blue collar workers work for a wage, not a salary. The more they work, the more they get paid. If they don't want to listen to their boss there are some migrant workers around the corner who will work for cheaper and without the lip service
>>
>>29299208
Most of the blue collar workers I know and work with are salaried. "Blue collar" doesn't have anything to do with hourly vs. set salary unless you're a temp/seasonal or a migrant worker.

He has a lot of fucking nerve to have been born that good looking, with a perfect voice, and to have stumbled into having a TV show by pure luck.

>>
>>29299258
not only that, by his own reasoning wouldn't accepting free library cards be accepting hand-outs?
>>
>>29297413
10, 11, and 12 are contradictory

It pisses me off so much that people like him don't take into account things like being bullied your entire life to the point that you're burnt out and psychologically traumatized.

This is such an oversimplified view of life. This is the kind of thing people with good genes and good upbringings say in order to not feel guilty about all the energy and bodily resources they were given for free.

If they can convince themselves that everything comes from "hard work" and that poor, weak people are just lazy, then they can escape from feeling guilt and responsibility.

I just hate that people getting free rides like him can believe they earned it

Some people ITT said he is legit, so out of curiosity I checked his Wikipedia page. The "salt of the earth" blue collar guy who made it big through "hard work" is an act.

Everyone's got their own beliefs. His is hard work and integrity. Is that so bad? He admires people who decide to get into the muck and do the work that others won't. Its not fun, its not well-paid always, its not something you WANT to do, its whats necessary. It's something a generation like ours doesn't understand because labor regulations are common but that doesn't mean people still don't die everyday just doing dangerous jobs to make a living.
>happy wage slave
No, thats a huge derivation from what he actually believes. Its about being responsible and not complaining about your situation, and making things work for you.
Most people out in the world now are operating by these principles because they don't have neetbux to fall back on. From a liberal, unresponsible standpoint the government will fly in on wings of taxes of from the evil superrich and support you for life.
That is a fantasy and doesn't exist. The way they are expanding it, they fully intend to cause a 'crisis' where they need to keep adding hidden taxes that will hurt the poor the most just to keep these programs alive.
I know most of you will disagree with me completely but try to at least consider that its not about being submissive, its about being realistic and responsible. At least in the believers eyes.

I really like the concept of working as hard as you can to better yourself and improving your lot in life, but Rowe infuses it with a shitty working class version of objectivism despite being a rich television host. No, many people aren't the product of their decisions. I'm lucky, I've had the chance to make my own chances, but many people haven't.

Also most blue-collar jobs are excruciating and plain shitty. Someone has to, and I have immense respect for those who do, but I'd work very hard and very smart in order to make sure I wouldn't be a bricklayer or something of that nature. It breaks you down.
>>
>>29297413
Mike Rowe is such a fucking faggot.

>there are no bad jobs

ok
>>
>>29304309

It's not just that, but sometimes it simply isn't warranted to bust your ass extra so your boss can make more profit, particularly if you are underpaid. A job is not a favor, it's a bilateral agreement between employer and employee. I'll do the work I'm paid to do.

The bit on education and debt is fucking retarded as well. You can't get an education to go and be a pharmacist or lawyer using your "library card", you literally have to pay six figures for professional education/certifications because of gatekeeper professional organizations (Bar association, AMS, etc).

And the reason we go into debt to go to school is because for professions with great outlook (medicine, etc), it's a smart decision-- it increases your lifetime earning potential borrowing and getting the education now, rather than saving nickels and dimes working some shit dirty job.
>>
>>29297413
While I disagree from a logical point of view what he says. I see nothing else wrong with the pledge. He's not promoting senseless slavelabour. He's simply promoting a pratical mindset and piratical solutions to the rigors of day to day life.

Whining is generally pathetic. The only things you have the right to complain about are things that you can't fix or at least alleviate in some way.

You have to be pretty pathetic to have serious problems with these.

They've worked out very well for me. I've only seen this today but I've been unconsciously following them my entire life and now I'm being under the highest income tax in my country (UK), in other words, I'm very well off and am free to peruse my hobbies and interests with relative ease while working a flexible job that I enjoy.

I came from a relatively poor family. My father broke every rule on the list and he spent the majority of his adulthood being a depressed single NEET. It was only after I told him to sort his fucking life out did he at least become the manager of a local supermarket. My mom on the other hand worked a job she hated, was hated and disowned by both of her families, and had to raise a severely autistic child who (eventually died of a seizure) with a random alcoholic who beat her. During all of this she managed to get a Ph.D and wrote 7 books dedicated to a cause she believed in.

I'm sorry. But it is really quite strange to me that so many people would blame their failings on the outside world. It never failed to occur to me as a child that there was always something I could do, always a variable that I could tweak or a situation I could move into, it was just intuitive to me. Even if someone tried to ruin something for me, I would curse myself for not foreseeing it, and eventually nothing could interfere with my plan. I always had a backup plan and everything went right.

Complaining about the world achieves nothing. Even if you hate the system and the way it works you have no excuse not to everything in your power to escape from it or manipulate it as much as you can. This philosophy is about taking action. Not mindlessly conforming to societies unwritten rules (which is exactly what I'm presuming you're doing).

As far as I recall, he estimated that communism would arise among educated and empowered working classes in developed countries, which it basically has; socialism is in force among advanced countries with strong labor movements, and will probably become stronger still in the near future unless it's strangled by fears of immigrants.

What I'm sure he didn't expect is that someone would try to force a move to communism in mostly agrarian countries and that it would morph into authoritarianism.
