Is anyone else kind of sick of Mary Sues in modern media?

Mary sues are fine but since fiction is completely saturated with characters that fit that bill, you have to produce a more creative product than your typical good looking, never failing everyman. Rorschach from watchmen is a good example. His journey is filled with hardships and failures. He even dies but not without acomplishing his goal.

I watched the Martian the other day, and he's kind of invincible too. Every time something goes wrong, he pretty much just fixes it straight away with no major ramifications. I would have thought a great way to finish it would be if
the nuclear reactor he has in the rover ends up giving him cancer, so even though they went through all this effort to save him, he ends up dying shortly after anyway
shit, I fucked up the spoilers.

Bull, I finished the book yesterday and he specifically says if it breaks he dies before living long enough to get cancer
