Thoughts on the 2000s?

Rhythm games were dope.
I miss the Dance Dance Revolution arcade renaissance.
Grew up playing DDR in arcades with my bros. Great time.
>>
>>29211266
It sucked. The music was worse. The internet stayed at home. The reccesion was terrible. And the aftermath of 9/11.
>>
>>29211304
Fuck 9/11 and fuck Bush.
The 90s were such an awesome high and that cocksucker ruined everything with his bullshit false flag and sloppy war pretext.
>>
>>29211324
That was the issue. The weapons companies weren't making money during the 90s
>>
The early-mid 00s are the best years of my life but I think that's true for anyone whose preteen-early teen years are fun.
>>
Pretty bad but not as bad as the 10s
>>
Absolutely fucking loved the late 90's/early 2000's. The Western world has essentially died since then.

>music was fresh and innovative
>video games were fresh, innovative and booming
>movies were fresh and innovative
>technology was booming
>the internet was still an incredible unexplored island and still used at home by only a small minority
>no information overload, to get a movie you had to go to blockbuster and rent it, not knowing whether the movie would be good or bad, but it wouldn't matter because the restricted and harder choice made the whole experience from picking the movie to watching it at home fucking fantastic every time
>food choises weren't as god-awful as they are now
>>

I agree 100%. There was an excellent balance between technology/real-life.

golden era of the internet

SA was still funny, Newgrounds...
downloading pron on kazaa and morpheus
animutations, old shitty geocities sites, portal of evil, steak and cheese, rotten.com, zombo.com,

fuck.... anybody remember The Friend Society? (formerly the fuck society)- Lots of funny edgy classic flash
'Somebody' who did the weird creepy flash stuff.
Xenon, best known screaming into a cheap microphone in all his flashes and starting the tom green barrel roll prank call meme.
DrunkMagiKoopa, famous animutation artist who went on to become famous twitter shitposter Dril/Wint
Sadly it is gone these days ;_;

Early 2000s were ok - actually because it was still the 90s in people's mind. 9/11 and mudslime shit made it a bit worse but not that much.

To me the real issue is the explosion of mainstream Internet since 2007. This shit literally killed social relationships and the way we see the world.

I enjoyed being a teenager during the early/mid 2000s tbqhfam. I'm glad I'm not a teen in the 2010s with all this facebook, netflix n chill, EDM, twerk, selfies, games of throne shit.
>>
>>29211656

2007/2008

I personally blame Capeshit, smartphones, iphones, etc and social media.
>>
>>29211590
>having to go to block busters is a good thing

I assume you like video games.
Do you know how if you play a video game with the cheat codes, it becomes a shit game?
The same thing applies to life.

Giving activities a bit of scarcity, ritual, and effort makes them a much better "game."

Going to Blockbuster and renting a movie was a much better game than Netflix.
>>
>>29211753

I agree, I left Secondary School just as social media was kicking off big around 07/early 08 and I can't imagine how much more stressful it would be for teenagers now.
>>
>>29211590
>just your typical "back in my day. whipper snappers don't know shit" shit its much more convenient now
Not at all. Having small choices makes life better. Let's say that some guy from the future visits you with a PlayStation 7. Would you, in that moment, be happier if the scenario played out whereby he gave you one game to play in which you have to solve a complete a task to receive it, or if it played out where he gave you 10,000 games, which he just gives you immediately?

Having more choice devalues all the other choices. This is why rich people are never happy, why sluts are never happy, things with infinite stream like 4chan and facebook are never fulfilling, etc. Essentially, it wrecks everything.

>no more 5 doller wacky packs at sonic? no more cinammines at burger king?
What I mean is that people used to eat healthier around then and food choices were healthier. Now everything is low-fat, added-sugar, ready-made GMO garbage.
>>
-Early 2000s were just like the late 90s
-2001/2004 was literally the golden era of the Internet
-2004/2007 was ok I guess

Then came 2008, the iPhone, the social networks, Internet went mainstream and the whole western world died. Back in the good ol days people would make fun of me for being a "geek", now they probably spend more time on Twitter than I do on 4chan.

Haven't even read the thread but I guarantee you some underage retard is gonna regurgitate the "good til 2007 when the normies got on the internet" may-may.

Let me tell you underage fags something. The normies were by and large online by 1999/2000, using it for all the same things the nerds were. The phones reached the very last of the turbo-pleb grandmas, true, but classic web was dead by 2000.

Who the fuck is talking about Internet ? We're talking about the whole society, not Internet itself. I don't even remember how it was until like 2006. But I remember how people used to be until the late 2000s and I'm pretty much sure we can all agree that we (=the society) weren't as much insecure, passive-agressive and unsatisfied with life than today.
Is it because of Internet ? Is it because of something else ? I can't really tell, as I said I don't really remember early-2000s Internet.

See. This is what I hate about now, the internet was one of my last refuges for dealing with shit in the early 00s but they've taken that too and I enjoyed comics, manga, anime a fair bit and still do but I really hate the whole "nerd" stigma that normalfags label it. What's wrong with just enjoying them for what they are and not using such a ridiculous, annoying label? Seriously, fuck em, worst part is how they would've ridiculed me for mentioning I liked fantasy novels, comics, manga, anime in the early 00s but those are quite popular now.

>classic web was dead by 2000.
Good joke. I'm 25 and I've been on the internet since I was about 10. The web had barely even picked up by that point. It was nothing much more than a few small websites without e-commerce or advertising, and things like AOL/Yahoo and their chatrooms dominated the internet around that time.

Stop being a disingenuous cunt. The normie invasion of any hobby results in normalization and its destruction.

>>
>>29212147
You perfectly understood what he's trying to say though. It's not about "if it's popular I can't enjoy it anymore", it's about how things tend to go to shit when they become popular.
>>
>>29211970
The ultimate truth has been spoken.
>>
>>29212158
Only the hobbies where you interacted with people. If a bunch of fags start doing it they ruin it by changing things.
However anime is just something you watch by yourself. Other people watching it doesn't change the VHS/DVD
>>
>>29212212
New stuff in a hobby when it becomes popular becomes developed for the lowest common denominator, making it shit for non-normies
>>
>>29212063
>I remember how people used to be until the late 2000s and I'm pretty much sure we can all agree that we (=the society) weren't as much insecure, passive-agressive and unsatisfied with life than today

This, but Internet has nothing to do with it. That's because of the financial crisis.
>>
>>29212212

>However anime is just something you watch by yourself. Other people watching it doesn't change the VHS/DVD
I'm sorry but have you kept up with the medium lately? Everything is fucking trapped in a game world now and it's worse than ever.
>>
>>29212247
>but Internet has nothing to do with it.
False. Modern-day internet and the way it's largely designed for consumerism has led to things like Netflix whereby entertainment is largely abused; social media, which became embedded into smartphones, again abusing entertainment, but even more shit-tier entertainment than ever.

It's creating a society with the attention-span of a brick wall. This makes people more stupid and less happy.
>>
>>29212158
Everytime I read that image I'm reminded that some people actually believe it.
Nerds (hipsters?) are just bitter that normies share their hobby, and they're too exclusive to have fun with normie scum.
>>
>>29212145
my argument is that people say the normies didn't get to the internet until 2007/08
People who think the internet didn't go mainstream until then are so fucking delusional
Listen, in the late 90s/early 2000s lots of junior high kids were using neopets, myspace(social media), AOL messenger, NORMIES were using these things
By the year 2000 HALF of US homes had internet access. Not some small minority. HALF.
And so many normie teens were using it.

2008 episode of Peep Show made a joke where one character says 'this internet thing is gonna be big' and the other says 'we'll see'
The joke there is that it's been big for so long. It's like if I said 'mcdonalds is gonna be big'
Those characters were the stupid ones in that situation, but it supposed to be funny because no one who wasn't living under a rock really exists, or so you'd think.
But then there are actually a few raging autists who insist it didn't become big until 2007
I don't know why people have some strong emotional attachment to this idea but it needs to stop because it is so irrefutably false
>>
>>29212231
Ok fair enough
If the hobby is is anime or a video game, sure they producers might change it somewhat to appeal to too many different types
But if it's something you do on your own then you can still do it the way you and your small circle of friend(s) want to.
Just because fags you never interact with are doing it wrong doesn't mean you can't do it the right way.
>>
>>29212335
>le internet overuse mess with dopamine shit and make people unhappy meme

What's next, masturbation is making people unhappy ? Back to your shitty subreddit pls
>>
>>29212480
>hobby
>anime and video games

Neither of those are hobbies.
>>
>>29212158
If those original people are gonna 'leave the table' so to speak then they can just pick things up again, how it was originally before they had to change it to accommodate outsiders
There's no need to let it die if you just go back to that small group
Sure there will now be people out there doing it wrong but if you don't interact with them then who gives a fuck.
>>
>>29212397
Normie culture was confined to places like myspace/MSN up til ~2007 though. Now they're everywhere all over the internet. And as some other anon said ITT, when the target demographic becomes normies, content quality plummets. A comfy non-normie community now no longer really exists.
>>
>>29212542
But then the original guys won't be cool or special for doing it XDDD

I feel like in reality, most of the founders would have gotten bored of the game, or fine that other people want to play it, and it's just the minority the minority that that pissed off.
>>
>>29212541
yeah I almost put the word 'hobby' in quotes there
My point stands.
If your hobby isn't some expensively developed video game or tv show, then nothing about how you experience has to change as long as you're not interacting with some of the new people who are into it
If it's still the same group of friends you can still do it however you like even if there are now normies doing it differently, it doesn't matter as long as you don't interact with them.
>>
>>29211439
>I think that's true for anyone whose preteen-early teen years are fun.
The best years of my life are 1996-2000 and early 2001. I turned 13 in February 2001, so I guess you're right.
>>
>>29212592
>why do you care lmao, just enjoy being assfucked
You are 100% retarded. As a guy said when idiots start flocking to something quality drops, but more importantly

If you like X and a bunch of retards you don't like say they like X not because they really like or understand X but to get credit and quirky points, wouldn't you be a little pissed? You got robbed of your shit there, because retards don't want to mind their own business and invade something that IS YOUR business.
>>
>>29212592
I'd like you to explain any example of normies taking over a hobby and changing it.
>>
>>29212545
>it was confined there, now they're everywhere
A lot of people who use the web now still mostly just use it for faceberg or nigger or tumblr
And true forums have become more popular but if you care you can find a new forum that isn't infested with fags.

Yes there are plenty of websites that give information, and plenty of annoying political websites but all you have to do is ignore them and find a place that hasn't been infested with too many people and you'll be fine

BTW Dating websites were a big thing back in the late 90s early 2000s
Full grown normie adults were using them.
>>
>>29212658
When 'idiots' flock to your hobby there's no need to change your ways and do it the way they do it
You an still just keep doing things with your friend(s) just the same
Who cares if some roastie is earning le quirky points, especially if you never interact with her or see her

>I was robbed
You sound like some whiny nigger
Just because other people out there are now riffing on the original doesn't mean you can't continue to do things the way you like them
Other people doing it wrong doesn't have to change the way you do it
>>
>>29212668

Not a hobby but A Song of Ice and Fire, the fanbase was completely different in the early 00s and Comiccon too. Combining it with TV shows was one of the worst ideas they could've done.
>>
>>29212778
>When 'idiots' flock to your hobby there's no need to change your ways and do it the way they do it
>'idiots'
eheheh
>Who cares if some roastie is earning le quirky points, especially if you never interact with her or see her

It is MY hobby, not HER hobby. The roastie wasn't welcome. She was supposed to do her roastie stuff and I do my stuff. She intruded - intruding without being invited is WRONG.

Also, part of having a hobby is the community associated with the hobby.

But yes you are correct, the only hobbies left are the ones where you have to be the only one to know about them and employ them.

Awesome.
>>
>>29212980
she didn't intrude if she didn't force her way into your circle.
she just picked up the hobby and started doding it differently with her friends
nothing about you or your circle has to change just because somewhere out there some attention whore is doing a bastardized version of your hobby
