Why does EVERYONE have "depression" nowadays?

Honestly it is starting weird me out just how much depression is talked about and how everybody, especially women, claims to have it.
>>
https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Munchausen_syndrome
>>
Do I get a free pass for saying I have depression when it's been a key factor for getting me hospitalized three times?
>>
it probably is a marriage of disease of affluence and the destigmatization/awareness about its symptoms having increased significantly in the past couple decades

you may be a dumb person, but I do not know you personally so I'll assume you just are young and full of cum
>>
Some people have legitimate problems with their brains, the rest just want attention and "depression" is considered fashionable and stylish right now.

Because our society and lifestyle is mentally unhealthy. No community, no rites of passage, no tradition, no multi-generational homes, no tribe, no purpose. The most 99% of people can aspire to is to rent their lives to a corporation for a higher rate than other people rent their lives for.
>>
>>29193327
women could never take responsibility for their own actions. so it's easier to claim "depression".
>>
>>29193610
This.
Everyone is depressed because of a depressing reality that they either don't know how to or can't overcome. It really is that simple, no mental gymnastics needed.
>>
"depression," clinically, is a real disease that affects the nervous system. It is characterized by a lack of proper function in dopamine and serotonin delivery systems that cause a person to feel motivation. It's a physical illness.

The symptoms of this illness are often indistinguishably similar to existential angst. The modern condition includes education that allows a person to come to understand just how fucked they are in the grand scheme of their own lives.

All we are working (or NOT working) for is fleeting pleasure because the family unit has broken down. We do not trust each other, we have no hopes of passing down any meaningful legacy, our culture is niggerized and spicified and muslim chest-bombed and we don't have any identity or any care for the next generation because the next generation is going to be a clusterfuck of homogenized McCultural backwash that doesn't honor or include our histories or personal acheivements.

Not everyone can be George Washington or Nikola Tesla. Not everyone can be great. If everyone was great, no one would be great.

For the massive majority of us who will never be great, the only hopes that we had to motivate us to get up and engage with life were family, legacy, and passing on of tradition.

That's all dead now.

So we just... freeze up. Because we know we have nothing to live for.

And we eat McBurgers and drink McSodas and get fat and lae down too much and creep inevitably towards death with no living hope for a meaningful life.

And that looks a lot like depression.

Just googled if women really have more depression than men and now understand why women are more likely to have depression then men.

Should i quote a few listed reasons?

>3. Women are more ruminative than men, that is, they tend to think about things more-which, though a very good thing, may also predispose them to developing depression. In contrast, men are more likely to react to difficult times with stoicicism, anger, or substance misuse.

>5. Women come under more stress than men. Not only do they have to go work just like men, but they may also be expected to bear the brunt of maintaining a home, bringing up children, caring for older relatives, and putting up with all the sexism!

>6. Women live longer than men. Extreme old age is often associated with bereavement, loneliness, poor physical health, and precarity-and so with depression.

So as you can see muuh sexism, muuh women think more muuh women live longer.

And btw these things where written by and i quote again
>Neel Burton, M.D., is a psychiatrist, philosopher, writer, and wine lover who lives and teaches in Oxford, England.

I don't care anymore

This.

Our cultures are or have been erased and now we are little more than worker bees. As hominids this can only cause depression as we have genetic memory that tells us that this way of life is not right.

I could not have said it better, anon. I felt a loss of rites of passage very much in my life. Or it was that I had no community that I could even join had their been a rite of passage. They say we still have them in
>losing virginity
>living on your own
>learning to drive
>getting married
>having kids
But the goal post keeps moving and there is no real community or group you are accepted into when you complete any of them. It all feels hollow.

What can we even do about it?

I don't know. To me, it seems like there always has to be a "fashion diagnosis" that everyone tries to get and talks about but forgets a few years later and maybe even denies being diagnosed when the condition becomes unfashionable.

Where I live, some "fashion diagnoses" and their time periods include (at least this is how I see it):
>Asperger's Syndrome, 1998-2006
>ADHD, 2005-2012
>Personality disorders (especially narcissism), 2009-2011
>Highly Sensitive Person, 2013-ongoing
>Autism, 2012-ongoing
Especially ADHD was very popular. Personality disorders in general were somewhat fashionable but less so than everything else on the list (except maybe HSP).

Culture of self-pity.

These people aren't actually "depressed", they just use it as a shield from criticism, and to get sympathy from others.

Haven't you gotten the memo, my man? Faux-mental-illnesses are trendy, now. Not real ones, mind you, but the fictional, memetic versions of them. Not the kind of depression that leaves you lying in bed smelling like shit because you haven't showered in two weeks or left your house in six because you simply don't see the point of life anymore, but the kind of "profound" depression that makes you feel a little "blue" for two weeks or so, gets you tons of sympathy and attention from all your friends and family, and goes away after a month. Not the kind of social anxiety disorder that leaves you confined to your house without any friends, unable to go outside, make a phone call, or write an email, but the kind of "quirky" social anxiety disorder where you feel a little "awkward" at a party and have to go home with one of your friends because you're "haha so introverted!" and "like, so shy XD". Not the kind of PTSD where you can't sleep at night and instinctively duck for cover when you hear any kind of loud noise, but the kind of "huffy" PTSD where someone said mean words to you on the internet and now you feel kind of bad.

It's all a giant meme. These normie retards think they're spreading mental health awareness, but all they're doing is making actual mentally-ill people feel like shit about themselves. They think they're "helping" when they copy and paste a suicide hotline number on their tumblr account or something. Then they turn around and bully those they're ostensibly trying to help. It's self-serving virtue-signalling that does nothing except make them feel good about themselves. Empty, selfish, and disingenuous--just like the people it's coming from.

Holy shit. People were mass diagnosing kids with those diagnoses during your noted times.
Real life truly is one depressing meme my friend.
Lots of those kids went on to develop real issues due medicine abuse.
Feels shit knowing some adults put a label on you and fed you medicine until you became literally braindead.
>>
>>29193327
It's "protected" and can't be criticized, and similar to religion it's an easy answer for why people are worthless.

the upswing of people leaving religion. There's nothing the counter the burden of knowing you will die, there's nothing after death, and you're just alive to reproduce. Science is cool but it doesn't actually make anyone feel better, just superior.

yep you nailed it. I really hate people who go to parties, have huge networks of friends, land jobs with their networking skills, and then complain about social anxiety. I don't even have any friends and my birthday is next week. I've literally never had a birthday party that wasn't just my parents.

Nearly 70 percent of Americans are on at least one prescription drug, and more than half take two, Mayo Clinic and Olmsted Medical Center researchers say. Antibiotics, antidepressants and painkilling opioids are most commonly prescribed, their study found.

Wow, the only drug I ever take is aspirin.

Adding:

Everybody works long hours nowadays, less time with family, friends or themselves. They devote their lives to slave away at some big corporation at job they usually don't like.

Jobs are hard to find anywhere and the pay is getting lesser and lesser.

Nobody wants to be close with one another because you can pretty much buy anything. Companionship, love, sex etc.

We don't eat healthy foods anymore. We eat cheap, processed crap filled with chemicals and other added ingredients that our body doesn't need nor can it process.

Nobody gets the job they want anymore. Me, I just slave away for 9 hours on adderall at a job I hate because I'm too dumb to do anything else. I can't be a doctor, a meteorologist, nope, none of that.
