I done some Googling, and it turns out that medieval peasants lived a better life relative to the medieval upper-class than the lower-class of today do in relation to the upper-class.
Medieval lower-class worked fewer hours doing easier work than post-industrial lower-class. There was less to buy for both the upper-class and lower-class, meaning that income was not as important then as it was now. Medicine was almost non-existent, so again money had even less use back then. Boys married at around 14 to girls of around 12. Women couldn't own land, so they were forced into marriages. No one was lonely.
Obviously there was the possibility that you would be drafted into war, but aside from that, the lower-class lived almost the same as the upper-class. The difference between the lower-class and upper-class has been growing ever since. Some rich bastard in today's world who gets pussy like whoah will be a thousand times happier than some Walmart-working ugoo who can't get laid. But back in medieval times, a duke would only be marginally happier than a peasant.
