This reminds me of high school. Our band would take a trip every other year to Disney in Florida for about a week or so. It was the reason most kids stayed in band, it was most everyones only chance to go on a huge adventure with their friends, from the Midwest all the way to Florida.
There was a kid two years above me, we'll call him David. David had autism and was severely diabetic or some shit. His mom had to always keep an eye on him, and he had to get certain shots every day at a certain time or he'd die. She was a nice lady and I think her and my mom got along alright.

Now that I remember correctly, he was roomed with a few dudes in the room next door. It was a couple chads I was friends with and they fucked with him pretty hard.
The worst was the actual trip. Most days he would try to run in a group of Chads. We would meet up occasionally, and they'd always say "DAVID why don't you go hang out with your actual friends?" and shit like that.
He'd say in a spergy voice "I don't have another group I'm going to stay here."
This fucking pissed the chad dudes off. Which, to a certain extent I understand. These guys all wanted to have fun and goof around and chill with their dudes, and this dude was a fucking dirty bomb of Aspbergers.
Every day these kids would try and ditch him, sometimes successfully. It was sort of against the rules to leave a member of your group stranded, but since its fucking Disney no one really cared.
He'd sit by himself, or walk around. Eventually he'd go sit somewhere with his mom while all the normal kids went and hung out, and road rides, and had a blast.
I try to imagine what that must be like, being ostracized thousands of miles away from home, every attempt to socialize, or even attempt to be normal shut down.
It made me realize, there are some of us that are not meant to make it. Some of us are not meant to be happy. Some of us are doomed. Everyone (including [especially]) me.
I really hope hes out there somewhere with a decent job, killin it. Maybe he found a nice chick. Last time I heard he had dropped out of community college, decided to try again and live in the dorm at a local university, family figured a little immersion might help.
