Well, last night I asked an anon for advice about how to respond to someone telling me they had feelings for me, and I tried to use it today. I was asked to post the result, and I feel I owe that much.
To give some preface, I have basically no social skills. I called her an told her that I felt similarly, but that I would like to take some time to get to know one another. We had a conversation that lasted about twelve minutes, and for most of it I was just asking random questions about her work, her interests, and her future ambitions. It was quite difficult because I had to lead the conversation despite having no idea how to do so, and there were several silences throughout.
The conversation ended with the following exchange:

One a scale of 1 to 10, how much did I fuck it up, and what am I supposed to do from here on out? If every conversation we have is like this, I'll die from the stress.Part of me just wants to say "fuck it" and go back to living a solitary lifestyle; I've never desired a relationship anyway. It doesn't seem like it was fucked up at all, OP. You said you wanted to get to know her before you got into a serious relationship and if she's willing to do that, then she'll stay through your questions. However, be sure to be honest in telling her about yourself too. A relationship where you both don't know each other is pointless, even if you may not have much to say about your solitary lifestyle.

Last night I was advised to get her to talk about herself, but she was giving fairly short, straightforward answers to my questions, and nothing resembling a proper conversation came about.

It simply depends on your similar interests. If she doesn't seem interested, don't try to force it, but note that its necessary for you to talk about yourself as well to discover the mutual interests. If the conversation doesn't seem to be holding well or for too long, don't try to awkwardly force it together. Some people just don't work out for each other, and that's okay.
