"Hot" is a pretty subjective word. Normal men "worship" blondes who are unremarkable in every way aside from not being fat and have quarter of an inch of makeup caked on at all times.
Here there is no dichotomy between "hot" and "cute". Cuteness is a quality that contributes to hotness. I suppose that it is instinct that innocent qualities would grab a beta a bit more than the typical man, probably because of some twisted predilection for dependency. Such a cute creature would never be able to survive on her own, and therefore we must protect her smile at all costs!
