this pisses me off. i'm a cashier and i spend all shift constantly moving my hands and body to scan groceries and pack their shit. so when there's a lull in traffic sometimes i like to rest a little by just standing there - it's not like there's much to do anyway. and yet if a supervisor sees me just doing nothing they get bitchy and tell me to start cleaning or organizing stuff.
But I swear, the supervisors spend a lot of time just standing there and talking and laughing. Oftentimes they'll just stand together and talk and laugh and talk about their social lives. I understand that work doesn't always look like work, but it seems kind of hypocritical to me.
For anyone here who works at a grocery store: is it impossible to see the bottom of people's carts, when they go through your check out line? For me it is. The way the cashiers are constructed, I literally can't see the bottom of the carts. So if someone has shit under there that they're either trying to steal or they forget they put there (honestly most of the time they just forget), I can't even SEE it. It makes no sense. How am I supposed to do my job?
