Is the college meme really just a meme?
I've been thinking a lot about my future recently and should decide fairly soon if I should start saving for college.

If you can learn it from the Internet/books, do so. Nowadays college is usually a waste of time and money, and you should only go if you're studying a really technical, difficult field that is in demand.

If your parents can't pay for it and you don't get a scholarship, then don't bother. Join the military or learn a trade.

It is almost certain you will never make above 45k salary without at least a bachelors. Go for it if you want to go into STEM. If you have a specific trade in mind, go to a vocational school.
Do NOT get a lib arts major. I swear to god, I've talked to them on campus, and these people are actual retards.

This is only true if you can't get into a really prestigious school. That's the only case in which taking loans is justifiable.
