It may be that you realise that you have things to take care of for yourself and helping others won't help that.
Maybe the logical part of your brain is thinking you should be getting something out of helping them?
People receive praise for doing anything that is remotely helpful. I feel uncomfortable when people divert unnecessary attention to me from what needed done. I'm not some hypocrite doing "community service" so I can take selfies to post online and get chicks. The true meaning of service is lost somewhere in a circlejerk-oriented society. Perhaps you feel the same, OP?
