Yes you can, the majority of tinnitus is in the brain, if you were deaf you can still hear it.
I get it sometimes, but I can mentally suppress it until it goes away. I just visualize a volume knob, then mentally turn it from 11 down to 0, and it fades as the volume decreases. I woke up today to loud as fuck police and ambulance sirens, an entire armada of 911 troopers has rushed through the street this morning. After they were gone, for a change, I wasn't hallucinating chripping birds but sirens for 30 mins more.
