I remember back when I was in school, I had enough power in my arms to shoot half court with a basketball while it didn't feel like I was trying to push with that much strength, but I could only throw a football like I had wet noodle arms and would barely make it 10 yards.

the arm motion is different, but you need to use body weight the same way you did chucking the half court basketball by moving forward as you release. Also spiralling it keeps it aerodynamic
