join a team sport. soccer or volleyball. you don't have to be good at it, and people will go out with you for food afterwards. Join a bike club.
Go to meetup.com and join a philosophy group or a discussion group for something you like.
learn to play an instrument and get into a band
do karaoke or perform standup -- get on stage.
go to speed dating events.
basically go to anything where it is expected that you interact with people. do not go to bars or farmers markets or concerts. people only talk to who they came with at those places. go to things that require that you interact with total strangers.do the team sports thing it's so fucking easy you just throw a ball around and then people talk to you and you make friends
