I'm not a theologist but I'll give it a go the way I understand it.
Humanity is tainted by sin, which was the original 'corruptor'. It brought us down from an otherwise-perfect state. This means we decay, and it seems to me this is the biblical explanation if you will for diseases like cancer. We brought it on ourselves even though God told us not to (and continue to do so, just look at us).

I have had events in my life that seemed extremely unlikely to have just 'happened'. But we have no way of truly knowing what is or isn't divine intervention. Frankly it's not worth worrying about.
The point of Christianity is not to have an awesome life on Earth, or even a long one. It won't get you rich. The point of Christianity is to understand that the world IS evil, and that humanity IS wrapped up in Satans evil by our own choice. The point of Christianity is to understand that this is transient. The wickedness of the world, all our trials, are a crucible for our faith that something better is waiting for us when we are done, and there we will have no pain. The point is to help others see that as well, and understand, and to offer them Jesus as we know him.
I want everyone to think about that and consider salvation. I won't try to force anyone in to it ever, certainly not online, but I'm wrong to not make the suggestion. You don't have anything to lose really; if you did you wouldn't be here.
