I've read an lovecraft autobiography and one of the contributers mentioned how, taking his hermit lifestyle into consideration, he would have spent much of his time on forums today instead of meeting people. He was attacking Lovecraft for being too cynical but it was still interesting to think about how people before the internet would treat something that we take for granted. If you really knew Lovecraft you would be at least somewhat familiar with the plethora of letters he wrote. There are literally THOUSANDS of them, it shows he was very antisocial along with his love for traditional living. The point op is trying to make is that he found alternatives to a healthy social life in most of the same way we do today. No disrespect to Lovecraft is intended. In fact, it's difficult to say he would of had been able to have the imagination he did if he didn't spent as much time as he did with just himself and his thoughts.
