This is why it is a great movie. It's the cliched pro-niceness message except it's actually realistic. They're not going to be friends afterwards. But they learned that they are more similar than they thought, and that means they'll treat each other slightly better than before. By the standards of school kids, this is a great achievement.
I had an Ultra Chad friend during high school. There were several times girls would literally throw themselves at me, mostly because I was friends with the chad. (Except 'muh morals' got in the way of boning them).
I later found out how much of a sociopath he was after he deliberately turned two of my friends against me. I had a 2 v 1 fight against two guys while my chad friend literally stood by the sidelines and did nothing.
I learned a lot from him

I had some crazy adventures with a group of friends when I was a teenager. No gf though. It was still a shit adolescence... I was already screwed up, failing all my classes, unable to form a relationship with any girl despite a few opportunities, was picked on and made fun of by my friends who thought I was weird. Regardless, I'd still take that time over now.

I was expecting a rollercoaster of emotions with partying and the proposition of drugs and sex but instead I got nothing but a slide in into shit and piss. I'm not sure if it's my fault for not being more proactive or if I was just never given the any chances to socialise like I wanted to.
