It's a red flag because those guys want to fuck you or would fuck you, but women tend to be oblivious or willfully ignorant of it. Claiming "no they aren't like that". Men are trash in general as well, and a woman in the middle of a group of guys is basically their pillar of attention and female interaction.
Women and mend rarely have decent relationships, having more guy friends than girl friends in my head means you'd rather have the 'easy' and full of attention social path where you get validation constantly. As well as for relationship material there will be one guy who likes you and will try to dissuade you from potential with a guy, or the woman will dump a person for an already established male 'friend'.
It's just a huge risk on the man's side, not so much in judging the woman.
