It's not about charisma as much as risk taking. The guy put most of his net worth into Tesla when it was failing to keep it going. If Tesla had failed he would have lost most of his money. However, it succeeded and he made millions. I actually work at SpaceX and absolutely love my job, lead a very simple frugal life and don't really care about money. Nonetheless, I grew up dirk poor and if I struck it rich like Musk there is no way I could risk such a huge portion of my capital on something as risky as Tesla/SpaceX. I just couldn't handle it psychologically. And this is coming from someone who is pretty passionate about space exploration.
