What is the best Linux system for causal use?
>>29024075
Casual use? What does that mean. Just get mint.
>>29024075
I'm also interested in this.
TELL ME
>>29024075
arch linux
should ask /tech/.
>>29024075
Latest Ubuntu with whatever desktop you like (probably Cinnamon, Mate, XFCE, Gnome Shell or KDE), latest Fedora maybe.
>>29024111
>arch
yeah don't do this. use mint or ubuntu. better yet don't use linux at all because it fucking sucks
OP here,I m new to Linux,I m still having trouble installing it,anyone can provide a guide to me?
>>29024130
>don't use free shit
>>29024111
Arch us definitely not for casual use, it'd mostly used for ricing.
>>29024130
Listen to this guy OP, use something clean like mint if you really want but if you don't know why you want to use linux you probably shouldn't.
>>29024075
>causal use?
Ubuntu.
>>29024075
Either Xubuntu or Mint.
>>29024075
Ubuntu.
I prefer Debian though, but any Debian derivative running MATE is fine.
>>29024153
Ask in one of the IRC channels for your distro or @ the current /fglt/
>>29024075
Gentoo.
I want you to feel the originality of this comment famallama

I picked up Linux five years ago after getting fed up with Windows' footprint and vulnerability to malware.
Never looked back, and it has landed me some very nice jobs.
>>29024169
>clean like mint
Is that a pun? But yeah, i hear that linux gets updates, so it is more secure than most, and ubuntu is for newbs and that there's more than one, and debian is the most customizable, and backtrack is for hacking, and then there's chibi and useless ones like damn small linux. Just spewing out what I was thinking. I've only ever tried using debian and puppy linux back when I had a windows 98 desktop. That and Fedora, of which shilled out and was no longer free. Or was it red hat? Nevermind because I had heard the old versions were glitchy.
>>29024194
Wow, so Apple really is for faggots.
>retards suggesting ubuntu
may as well stay on windows
try arch or parabola, op.
Get Ubuntu MATE or Xubuntu. Everything mostly works out of the box.
Avoid Linux Mint. It is the Windows of Linux. They disable kernel updates which is a security risk.
>>29024230
*mepis is an easy version of debian but compatible with it's software so maybe a n00b would try it
Just remembered that I was interested in that one too. So many linux's... (is it over 9000 yet)
>tfw will never have a ds with dslinux on it
>>29024111
Unironically this, antergos is a prericed arch installer. If you want something pretty that just werkz use that. Arch keeps packages up to date and the AUR makes hetting everything you want a bit easier.
>>29024230
Ya sorry for the shitty pun but honestly I just don't see a lot of reason to use any linux distribution for a desktop computer. Sure it's powerful but it usually just causes more trouble than its worth. It's nice if you want to play around with a local server or something or if it's mostly a development environment but that's about it imo. Only thing I really like about linux is bash.
OP here I install Linux is for storing some illegal shit,I can't tell you what exactly
>>29024361
If you don't rubberhose it, better prepare to take Bubba's rubber hose bro.
Running Ubuntu right now. Thinking of switching to Debian, should I do it?
Which distro has the most compatibility with hardware?
>>29024398
Probably Ubuntu to be honest.
>>29024075
Mint
also, image sauce?
>>29024398
If using a laptop expect your wifi to not work.
>>29024398
Ubuntu distros.
>>29024319
You can pick kernels to switch to in the updater including updated ones

ITP: It's 2005
>>29024075
I'd go with ubuntu or kubuntu, DE I use is plasma. Enlightenment was really pretty last I saw, but fucked stability-wise
>>29024075
Oh, protip: install on a separate partition. Keep everything else away, your home folder needs space, trust me. Makes things easier in the event of a reinstall. (This is something I learned the hard way)
>>29024571
But what about configs in the home directory? These may make the desktop environment look weird with a different distro.
Slack + tmux.

I'm not worthy.
