Let me preface this saying I absolutely love music, can play over 25 instruments at orchestra level, and have been playing guitar since I was 6.
I know its a waste of time and probably will never get me anywhere. Sure orchestra is a decent amount, gigging us nothing compared to stem and the chances of being able to live off of it make it almost completely not worth doing. To add to this, the majority of the people I've met that play, do it exclusively for attention or acceptance from peers.
The idea of music, is a field that you can drop your entire life into, and you will never know everything about it. It's a lot like math or biology, except doesn't serve a practical purpose. So, if you're bad at those things, you can still get enjoyment from constant learning
