It depends on the person and how long they've been in that kind of life. Listening to people who haven't left the house for 6 months is one thing since you can probably convince them that can get better. Yet, if they've been a complete shut in for 10 years it's doubtful. No, the manga is extremely different, to the point that it barely the same story. It's like fifty short comic strips where Satou or Misaki gets themselves into danger\falls for a scam\tries to kill themselves and the other has to come save them, but there is almost no character development between them and everything is forgotten by the next time. Worst adaptation since they tried to make an Umineko anime.
