I live in Chile, a pretty much standard democracy. Our current President is a socialist, but the one before her was what you gringos would call a Republican. Huge protests were held in his time in office, by our student movements, fighting for "the people". This was 4 years ago.
Right now, literally the same movements are fighting against a socialist government, and those who led the movements back in 2012 are in Congress, being yelled at by the young, again. I repeat, 4 years. Nothing.
