People think they're being sneaky by going to electronics, sports, auto, and garden to escape the lines up front when the store is busy. problems are that basically everyone knows about those areas anyway, and it can slow down the service for other customers, so a huge queue builds up in the meantime.

While I'm generally inclined towards self check-out, Wal-Mart self check-out is the absolute worst in my experience. Have to stop and wait for the attendant to override the machine every time I scan an item because the thing is too fucking stupid to function as it normally should.
And, of course, said attendant is almost always on their phone, or absent from their post altogether, which additionally complicated the matter.
