I don't support alimony in cases where both partners have the same earning potential, or alimony that's strictly gender based, but I imagine marriage is an investment for a woman as well as a man. Men often assume all women are lazy sacks of shit who don't contribute anything, but women often contribute emotionally, socially, and through housework or child rearing. A surrogate costs well over six figures per child, and that's not counting the time and work spent raising it. Alimony makes sense in the very specific case of a woman who has been with a man for many years, giving up a productive career to raise his children. Even in that specific case, the alimony should be based on what her potential career could have paid her, not some arbitrary lifestyle shes "become accustomed to".
