It seems like the author wanted this story to be about loneliness more than about fetishizing children. I guess a lot of robots can relate to the feeling that nobody notices them and that their world is pitch black. This guy didn't have a preference for children, he just happened to come across a child who gave him the attention he needed.
I do have to comment though, that he did have suspicions that she was a child. He admits that he was too weak to act on that suspicion and a big part of the story is his weakness and desperation for love.
I think this is one of the strongest allures of pedophilia; people who don't feel loved see children as their only hope for affection since children haven't learned about the cruelties of the world that harden peoples' hearts.

I think you're definitely, that a lot of people who do end up molesting kids are people who for some reason see them as their only hope. It's a scary and sad thing to think, that it drives them to hurt kids because they are so alone.

The mere fact that you can't even argue that its a brain problem in public is something psychologists want to work on. They want people who are into kids going to a psychologist and getting help rather than silently waiting in the shadows until they molest some kid years later.

AFAIK only Germany has actual support for people with pedophilia. In my country (USA), if a person who is having sexual thoughts about children talks to their doctor about it, they typically HAVE to report that person as a threat rather than helping that person to not be a threat. It is a very sad state of affairs, I really really hope that things can change around and these people can get help both for the sake of children and the adults.
I think a lot of people would like to see doujins like this no longer made. I'm on the fence. On the one hand, I like to pretend I'm a kid when I get off. On the other hand, if pornography like this is ever conclusively shown to encourage people to actually hurt children, I will be the first to say that it should be censored even if it means I have to use my imagination from now on.
But as far as I know, there's no proof that it encourages people to molest children.
