Who /makes music for fun/ here? I used the vocals from Coldplay to make this one.

Anybody else got original music to share?
I like it, anon. Very chill especially after the drop. I love fix you and usually I wouldn't like a somewhat-generic-EDM cover of it but this is pretty nice.
I'm musically competent and have started to make stuff on FL studio before but I don't have enough time to finish anything at the moment. I'm gonna try and compose some stuff in the summer.
i made this after someone i knew killed himself

the whole point was to change the feel.
I want to write noise pop but I only know a bit of piano
i would have some hesitation to post this account but fuck I don't care

What piano did you use? I haven't found the right piano library/sample yet. I really like yours.
>>28866513
I be you listen exclusively to distorted white noise and Ghost synth pop
>>28866528
Yep, I don't really follow most of /r9k/'s beliefs though, I'm just isolated from society so there's not many outlets to relate to

listening to this right now

judge away. your musical opinion is irrelevant anyway
>>28866543
it's the stock ableton piano with reverb added
there's also a muted, low-passed, plucked synth that mirrors what the piano plays that gives it certain rich warmth
what is a free software i can use to attempt making music?
>>28866615
idk why I never thought of layering my piano's.
Thanks man, I'll try it next time I open up ableton.

My friend had a really bad mental breakdown in the winter and I made this as sort of an emotional exorcism. When he heard it, he provided the header picture.

I recommend Piano In Blue. Great vintage sound out of the box, nice soft/hard wheel. Downside is that the embedded "old microphone" sound gets too loud when you play many notes at once, such as playing an arpeggio with the pedal.
Here's a demo

I make music both for fun and because it's the only thing I'm good at other than vidya games. I am majoring in composition and want to compose music for vidya someday.

^influenced by Undertale/Persona 4. Also listen to the next song, "the Lava Cavern" if you want something more video game-y sounding.
Also working on an alternative/progressive rock album at the moment. Here are a few demos you may enjoy if you like Radiohead/Incubus/Oceansize/Deerhunter, idk

What drums and sax plugins did you use?
So im trynna chop and screw some old memphis shit on FL Studio. How do i use fruity parametric eq 2 to bring in the bass at a later point in the song that isnt the beginning? Also, how do i slow down the tempo correctly so that all the lines match up? I guess i just gotta find the tempo of the whole song right? How would i do that then?
>>28867073
It's all default VSTs and plugins that came with Cubase 5. Just a MIDI brush kit and a MIDI "tenor sax VX" with nice realistic note manipulation.
>>28866930thanks anon :) orignal
Do any of you know where to get some nice piano loops?
>>28867504
I'm assuming you're asking for sampling right?
Go to some jazz piano pieces.

okay, thanks :)

I even did a song about r9k with vocaroo samples but it's on my bandcamp tho, it's called am I not a man and a brother.
I have a question for those with musical minds.
When you listen to a song, does your mind automatically imagine what notes or sounds a song could have added to it?
>>28868185
What you describe is fairly specific. It would be like that when you're writing music. Not when you're listening to already finished songs, although that totally is an option.
An interesting thing to notice is that some people have perfect pitch. This enables them to "recognize" what notes are played. This can aid in writing melodies and transcribing other songs.
I hope this is clear enough for you.

>>28866978
I used that but a few notes looped a pedal creak or some shit and it became unusable. Now I'm on Alicia Keys. The tone isn't as nice but at least its fucking solid.
>>28868572
this is super nice, just thought you should know
https://clyp.it/dtijexyp
how do you make a good beat? seems like every one I make is missing something (or a few things)
>>28870478
Get better samples and learn how to mix them.
Also get a basic understanding of music theory (Scales, scale degrees, pentatonics). It will definitely boost your musicality.
>>28869442
I was looking for sampling material and found this recording that I ended up using as the main vocal sample for the track.
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=-zT82BinhaQ
(Sample is at 0:36)
I spent probably hours going scanning through different recordings, listening to only the first ten seconds or so before moving onto the next. This really stuck out to me out of the stuff I was searching through. It gave me a sense of nostalgia because singing in school choirs was one of my favorite things growing up and got me into loving music. I also find the song to be oddly melancholy. It has a strange mix of the uplifting music and the somber lyrics; it's different from most music like this, yet I feel strongly connected to it.
Thanks for listening.
Made this today, what do you guys think?
