It was honestly a very good choice.

The work isn't too hard, and the grade inflation and open curriculum make your quality of life a lot better. Otherwise, I'd imagine it's relatively similar to a lot of it's peer schools.

Only downside for me is the political atmosphere. I'm a pretty moderate person (would have voted Blue 12', Red in 08', etc.) but I find some of the far-left activism very frustrating.

It works out though because I stand out as the smartest person in my major here.

White Male, from Northern NJ. Not exactly the most desirable demographic. Currently studying applied math and economics.

My school didn't rank, but when I was applying I had almost straight As for the past 4 years. One or two A-. I was probably in the top 1% of my school. I had a lot of free time, so I did a decent amount of extra work outside of school, which may have helped.

I applied Early Decision, which in my opinion is very important for applicants who would otherwise not have anything of special interest to the school.

IMO the most important thing you can do is to apply to quite a few schools since it's a crapshoot for any top 10 college. Also, be very deliberate with where you choose to apply ED, if you are in a position to do so. It can make a big difference.
>>
>>28852112
Shit that's impressive, good job. I want to get into a top non-Ivy Liberal Arts school like Wesleyan but I'm probably fucked with no extracurricular stuff.

Isn't brown a pretty liberal artsy school? I mean, I'm sure the math program is still great at any ivy league school, but you know what I mean. I imagine the social climate is at least relaxed if you avoid the political nuttery.

Do you have friends or do anything at brown? I was a shut-in at my school for the first few semesters, and it was absolutely killing me. didn't have any motivation to do the work, or to do anything really. If you don't do any activities, you probably should, so you can actually feel like productive and like you're taking advantage of your time

hopefully I can figure out how to do that with therapy because I'm pretty sure if I can't I'm just gonna kill myself instead
>>
>>28852255
I didn't take the SAT but I took the ACT which is pretty similar. I have never studied (even now in college) and I got a 28/34, which is better than 90% of the people who take it.
>>
Never took it.

I always got good grades in school without studying so in my infinite teenage wisdom I decided I had had enough of school and got a GED when I was 16. I wanna go into school for animation so I got need amazing grades anyway.

There's almost no money in animation anon. Computer engineering

Some factors to consider, I'm Asian, I was in a lot of clubs, but not many leadership positions (quality not quantity issue I guess). I also mentioned a lot of fringe hobbies on my application and essays which I thought would help me set me apart, but maybe they didn't.

It's actually a bit hard to make friends for me; I had it easier in HS. But thankfully Brown has something called "program houses" which are kind of like frats, but for interest groups. So next year I'll be living with all computer/nerdy people which is awesome.

DESU I'd probably be a bit better off socially at MIT (if i could even get in) but Brown's work-life balance is a lot better.

but yeah, I had 1 shitty professor. The rest were outstanding.

Thing is, the class was brutal because everyone else was valedictorian of their high school.

I still don't know how my essay was any good, I can't bring myself to reread it because I end up really hating anything I write

Had an acquaintance who for like half of Junior year did nothing but prepare for the SAT while neglecting school work. He was a bright kid, definitely above average but not anything extraordinary, at least to my knowledge. Got decent grades. He ended up getting the second highest SAT score in the class of 700 something, second to some Asian kid. He got a full ride to University of Alabama and his dad bought him a red mustang, his mom wasn't in the picture. I hope he's doing well.

I myself got ~1700.
