I quite liked Catcher in the Rye. The book equivalent to Taxi Driver, which is quintessential robot material. Even though the book is 60 years old or something, it is still really powerful today.

as much as Holden claims to be smarter than all the phonies around him, he's the only person who seems to be lost in it all. He's somehow "too smart" to function in what he seems to view as a stupid society.
He thinks he's insanely special but thats only because he has no capacity to try and look at the world through other peoples eyes. Or at least he makes no attempt to understand that a lot of other people have super intricate and complex thought.

I shouldn't write Holden off entirely. I hate him as a person. But as a character in a book, fucking love him.
Holden gives a voice to the angst of youth. He's obnoxious and a bit of a cunt. But he's also a reminder to those who read that just because someones a cunty teenager, they can still be pretty smart.
He's a perfect example of the disconnect of IQ and emotional intelligence. A lot of talent for analyzation and observation but a yet undeveloped knack for applying or completely understanding what you find. He reminds you what you should hold onto, his energy and somewhat foolhardiness. But also what you need to grow out of/into, choosing empathy rather than looking solely through your own eyes.
Holden is a beautiful cunt. He's the perfect cunt.

I re-read it this year and have to say that I do. In my opinion, it has good commentary on being self-aware and realizing that you're not a special snowflake, which is a mindset that a lot of teens (myself included) fell into. You might feel pissed at the world, but the world hates everyone equally and there's nothing new in feeling dissapointed with the world.
Being "phony" to him is being a hollow wageslave. Holden tries to hide his actual empathy behind bitterness and stoicism. All he really wants to do is preserve his sister's (and others) innocence because nobody did for him. He thinks he is already a grown phony because he smokes, drinks and gets escorts.
He is the same infp robot that i am.
