That game had the best moments like that. Will never happen now because everyone's such tryhards. You have 11 year olds watching gaming montages and then using the cheapest tactics possible to try get the most kills they can. I played other games back then too like a star wars battlefront game on PSP where the community was so chill. If you rapidly changed weapons it looked like you were dancing, and people would do it to say hi to each other, or challenge each other to duels. Closest thing to that now is bowing in Chivalry before duelling, but even with that chances are they'll behead you while you're down or some kids will come and stab you in the back, ignoring the duel.
God I miss when games were chill and fun lads. I don't care about getting kill of the game or montages or that shit, just want to have fun.

I missed Halo and the old days so much that I dumped $600 on the Halo 5 Xbox One and beat the legendary campaign solo playing 20 hours straight.
No regrets. It's a great game. Way better than 4 and Reach.

I used to play half life deathmatch and cs:s when I was in elementary school with my neighbors all the time. They threw sick LAN parties. I didnt know it yet but those were probably the best times.
My parents were vehemently against video games until I was a teenager. Then they finally let me buy my own system (xb 360) and it was game over. Went full NEET on Halo 3 and Gears of War 2 for lile 5 straight years. I played from sunuo till sundown on weekends and during the summer.
In hindsight those years probably really fucked with my development.

I must have literally wasted a year of my life in gametime playing Halo. Every day after school I would go straight to the 360, and play customs with my online and school friends. On the weekends I would stay up until like 2AM, then wake up again and do the same thing the next morning.
In hindsight, such an unhealthy addiction and a waste of time, but god damn was it so much fun. Never got bored of it, and shared many laughs and made many friends.

cod4 (and bioshock) is the reason I bought a 360. Friends didn't want to do anything else besides play it. Didn't hang out with anyone for months because I didn't have the magic system. Finally broke down and got one. Pushed my way back into the group and got gud.

Modern Warfare was a great game. So was World at War.
Now, Modern Warfare 2 was a completely unique experience. It was so hyped up with the killstreaks and shit but ended up being so broken and buggy that the multiplayer was complete shit but still so much fucking fun to play.

Yeah I've had the same 360 the whole time, got one of the basic ass models too where you needed to go buy harddrive and wifi and shit yourself. I have the poster that came with Halo 3 right next to my desk, that painterly one with chief and arbiter posing. It's the piece that made me look into doing art for games, then finding out about concept art, etc, and started me down the path of wanting to be an artist. Yeah same man. I played GTA IV all the time, and had a few friends we would helicopter battle with all the time. Using guns was for faggots, but being able to swing round and nudge off their tail while keeping yours intact was a real skill. Also one time a guy had driven all the way across the map to get that rare car that spawned in garage at top of the left island, drove all the way back to the airport to show off, right as I beat my friend in chopper battle. His flaming wreck of a chopper plummeted right onto that poor rare car guy right as he came onto the runway to show off. Felt sorry for him but also laughed so hard our sides ached.
Had one friend who got stupidly good at flying them without tails too, like he could take off and land anywhere just by pulsing the throttle at the right times.

I know it's a SJW designed ripoff but I found the Overwatch beta pretty fun, and it didn't have the same obsession with hats and shit that TF2 pc has. I don't know if it'd be as fun now it's a fully released game but it gave me hope that maybe people who got into game design because of great games like the ones we're talking about here are now the people in charge of making them, and we're going to see a gaming renaissance in the next few years and new games that capture some of the Halo 3 and TF2 360 magic.

One of my friends had that happen, best thing to do is take the top of the 360 (when on its side), clean everything, and put it back together. Probably just dust built up in the motor. You can also still play it with the top off, same friend used to have to start up the disc spinning like a dj before the 360 would realize a disk was in and start it.

I noticed how nobody has mentioned Halo 3's absolutely GOAT ranking system pre-patch.
Do they do that any more in modern console shooters? Make a multiplayer ranking system that effectively sorts out the good and bad players? In CoD you could just grind until getting 10th prestige but in Halo 3 you had to fucking win multiple games in a row against people the same rank as you to rank up. Those matches afterwards shit talking the losing team were amazing moments. Squealing babies 1 win away from General getting fucking stomped by me and my crew

Reach didn't feel like a decline to me. It obviously had it's flaws but invasion, forge world and custom firefight were the best things about it. Armor permutations were also really good. If it weren't for armor abilities and the DMR, it might have been the peak Halo multiplayer experience

Don't get me wrong I loved Reach. It's just the community was never as strong about it. After the beta, hype really died down. There were problems with the story. armor abilities and loadouts were weird. Still played a great deal of it but Halo 3 and ODST were still better to me.

halo reach would have been the best game IF, in my opinion:
Didnt have bloom from the start.
Didnt have armor abilities but instead had armor ability PICKUPS. Like you would have a jetpack out on the map at the beginning just like the rocket launcher or the sniper.
Bubble shield and regen in halo 3 were pretty stupid but they were pickups that didnt interfere with the game hardly so they were never seen as a big issue

I agree, the equipment in 3 was more versatile too. I seem to remember Reach not having assualt or infection at the beginning either, which were two of my favorite game modes. Then there was the fact that most of the maps were remakes of halo 2 maps, and half of those were made in Forge world. God I missed Valhalla and sandbox.

Armor lock as a concept would've been ok if it didn't drain enemy shields/vehicles and maybe it should've even left you in first person view staring at the ground while in use. That's an adequate tradeoff for invincibility really

There weren't as many custom game lobbies that stayed up all night playing together in Reach. SWAT was close though. unnecessary and taken from CoD yes, but worth playing. Halo had better gameplay and maps then CoD anyways. But Reach was pushing it in that area.
