Halo 3 was absolutely the best game I ever played. At east best multiplayer shooter. I must have filled out my entire xbox live friends list with people I met in matchmaking. I'd stay up all night playing custom games in full lobbies. I'd spend hours in forge mode. Not to mention all the fandom machinima. Halo truly went downhill after ODST. No, currently, it has support for multiplayer and forge. It's still in alpha, so there's a lot of stuff missing, like a ton of maps and dual wielding. There's also sprint, but most servers have that disabled. It's also pretty buggy. Despite all this, it is so fucking fun. It was a trip down memory lane, man, download it, you won't regret it.

I'm nostalgic about that time in general but one person who I'll never forget was a guy I met on Halo Wars, he was a general like 2 weeks after launch and instead of shit talking me he showed me how everything worked and what some of the best strategies (at the time at least) were, made me feel really good. There will never be a time as good as playing xbox live with friends after school. I keep trying to get into new games and I can't do it. They just aren't the same. I loved the Halo trilogy, Gears, pre-blops CoD, Battlefield 3, there were just so many fucking good games. So many good shooters.
Now there's fucking nothing. Games either try to be hyper-realistic, and usually fail, or try to be hyper-casual, and usually end up as shitty games for it. I haven't found a shooter I actually liked in years, and for my friends it's the same. Some of them were able to get into CS:GO but I've always hated source's movement and shooting mechanics, and playing a shooter on the PC just isn't the same.
I want splitscreen again. I want to hang out and have a bunch of different games to play. I want games not to suck. But that's all over.

The kids these days are chadlets that make friends in school and add each other on their vidjya shit. It really is impossible to make friends on games nowadays, everyone's more reserved because there's no such thing as forced game chat anymore. You get a 360 and go on something like MW2 s&d and 99% of the time the whole lobby talks. There's too much social media shit and casualization being forced into games is the problem. Back in the day video games were for losers and everyone knew it, but we were losers together. In my opinion anyway youtubers had a lot to do with it too.

I think its the effort to make everything connected and social online thats fucking us over subconciously kind of. Growing up playing CS, half life dm, tribes, quake and starcraft in lan-cafes was social. Playing Goldeneye 64 splitscreen with your pals.
Nowdays people are comfortable with the internet socializing and naturally try to meet friends or girls there and it generally dont work out. it lacks the human element in a way.
I remember fondly eating shit on cs_mansion in the cafes or waiting in line to try super mario 64 for the first time in a vidya store, looking at some kid drowning mario becauses 3d (and the 64 controller) was so fucking foreign to consoles.
Cant really remember time spent on XBL or WoW as much. Maybe its my brain, always had trouble remembering stuff

The interactions on there, we all shared one reason to be there, to play the game, and that's why such genuine friendships arose. i still use my gamertag from 07. i still have people from halo 3 on my friends list, about 50 some, but i haven't talked to them in years. i like going back and looking at old achievements i got with a 2007 date on them. even though nobody looks at my achievements, i still go for em, i just passed 138,000

I had 217,000G from my days as an achievement whore but I got into a modded ground war on WaW that unlocked all the achievements for it. Called support and told them about it, next day I got on and my score was set to 0. I called again and asked if it was a mistake but they said no, they can't just reset specific achievements and had to clear all of them.
I don't think I've ever been more suicidal in my life than that day tbqh, those were the only things that actually made me feel accomplished in my life as sad as it was. That accounts sitting at about 4,000 now but I got my new one up to 29,500 in 5 months.
