School system is good. If you're academic you go to a gymnasium. If you are technically inclined you go to a HTL. The rest go to various other schools, that all fill a niche (Business, tourism, trades, padalogical). Small businesses are keen to work with the schools that train their future workers. Throughout school you have mandatory work in the summer. I only got two weeks holiday for most of my summers as a teenager but always worked with the same company. It wasn't complicated (though it was at Hilti) but it allowed me to work with and be around adults. When I left I did conscription, went to university and worked for Hilti again. Five years of that and then I inherited the family business.
This doesn't apply to Vienna but for the rest of the country its true. Everyone knows someone. We have one of the lowest unemployment rates in the world. I employ lots of guys for internships and I would gladly employ any of them when they finish school.

As for the championships - there are shitloads of them, your school should have a case or consulting/investment banking club, there you can find a team and participation is generally free. Once again, it's not a must, but top tier first (eg bcg, Goldman) are extremely picky, you can only pass your cv through in case you have great internship experience (not my case obviously) or high academic achievements. You'll be competing with Ivy League fags so you can grasp what I am talking about. Starting wage is around 60-70 k with high annual raises. Do not pursue investment banking though, their hours are even fucking longer + weekends included, my friend.
