emerge [--ask] xorg-x11/xorg-drivers xorg-x11/xorg-server xorg-x11/xorg-xinit
At least I think those are the names, else just look them up with emerge --search xorg | less
Also you might need some vendor specific drivers, run lspci -k | less and check your video drivers
lspci -k | grep -i vga
if it says, say, intel, then do
emerge --search intel and look for something along /x.*-intel.*/
oh and I am assuming you know your regexes here

also, because you're in a laptop (are you OP?) be sure to have included synaptics drivers (as modules preferably) in the kernel for your touchpad to work. Else you'll have to recompile the kernel. Good news is that make only compiles something changed files each time so it'll take significantly less time now
gentoo is fun.
